Port Chester Firefighters Assist at 4-Alarm Fire in Ossining

Last night at approximately 8:00 PM, the Port Chester Fire Department was requested to respond to the Village of Ossining with a FAST Team for a 3rd-alarm structure fire.

Upon arrival, Port Chester members stood by as the FAST Team and assisted with fireground operations as crews continued to battle the fire.

At approximately 11:00 PM, as conditions intensified and the incident grew to a 4th alarm, Port Chester’s Tower Ladder 2 was requested to the scene to provide additional assistance with fire suppression operations.

Our members operated alongside numerous departments from throughout Westchester County before clearing the scene at approximately 4:00 AM nearly eight hours after the initial request.

⚠️ **WEATHER ALERT – FLASH FLOOD WARNING & TORNADO WATCH** ⚠️

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Port Chester and surrounding areas until 6:45 PM EDT. A Tornado Watch also remains in effect until 9:00 PM EDT. Additionally, a Flood Watch remains in effect through 2:00 AM Wednesday.

Residents are urged to remain weather aware throughout the day and evening. Additional rounds of strong thunderstorms are expected, bringing the potential for torrential rainfall, dangerous flash flooding, damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and isolated tornadoes.

Please remember
• Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown.
• Stay away from flooded streets, streams, creeks, and other low-lying areas.
• Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
• Secure loose outdoor items that could become airborne in strong winds.
• Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and emergency alerts.
• If a Tornado Warning is issued, seek shelter immediately in the lowest level of a sturdy building, away from windows.
• If flooding threatens your location, move to higher ground immediately.

The Port Chester Fire Department is actively monitoring conditions and stands ready to respond as needed. We encourage all residents to use caution, remain weather aware, and call 911 only for emergencies.

Sunday Boat Training 🚤

Today, members of the Port Chester Fire Department participated in a hands-on Boat Operations training program taught by Signal 73 Training, continuing to build the skills necessary to respond to water rescue and flooding emergencies in our community.

Throughout the day, members trained on:
• Operating both department rescue boats
• Deploying and utilizing throw bags
• Safely rescuing victims from the water
• Boat handling, communications, and coordinated rescue operations

Following the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Ida, where Port Chester firefighters performed well over 100 water rescues using every available resource, our department recognized the need to further strengthen our flood rescue capabilities. As a result, these rescue boats were acquired to better prepare us for future emergencies.

While we hope our community never experiences flooding on that scale again, today’s training ensures our members are ready if it does. Whether it’s rescuing someone from floodwaters after a major storm, assisting stranded motorists, or responding to emergencies on our local waterways, these skills and this equipment allow us to provide a faster, safer, and more effective response.

A special thank you to Signal 73 Training for providing an outstanding, hands-on class that gave our members valuable experience operating the boats and performing realistic rescue scenarios. Partnerships like these help ensure our firefighters are prepared to meet the challenges of any emergency.
