So tomorrow's the day for stamp out hunger the post office's version of food drive where you leave a bag of food at your mailbox for the mail carriers to pick up. They leave you a trash bag or bag like you would get at Walmart to take your stuff home. It says step out hunger on it and a postage card that explains their little food drive and tomorrow is the day they want you to do it. That stuff was left in the mailbox yesterday. I have here a picture of the bag and I have a picture of my little donation with the postcard in it and I'm asking everybody I know to leave any of the things in your cabinets that you don't typically eat or won't eat in one of those bags at your mailbox and help all the food pantries that they assist out with giving them food to distribute to their clients. Now I am not on the list so I am not doing this to gain anything. If you wish to donate food items to me just give me a call and I'll come pick them up. This is stamp out hunger and I do know that the mail carriers make a contest out of it and I think each post office gives a gift card or something to the mail carrier who brings in the most canned goods. So give it some thought.

This is a sad day. I found out that the homeless Coalition/care in Port Charlotte is no longer serving hot meals to the homeless not in their shelter. A lot of the homeless people living in their tents not just in their area but around our County go there for a hot meal if not everyday then several times a week. I sent people there yesterday and I feel bad because from Punta Gorda to cycle or go all the way out to Murdock is a crazy thing to have went through to get a hot meal and them not have one. I called this morning And I asked them was this correct that they had stopped serving hot meals for the people in the community and were only doing it for those in their shelter? And I was told yes they are having staffing issues and can't do it right now until they get it worked out. So I said I will see if I can get some people to volunteer to come help. I was not replied to whether or not that was a good idea but I would like to still try.

Please anyone who's reading this if you think you could volunteer out at the homeless Coalition or Care Center as it's known of now, even if it's just one day a week. Please give them a call and see if it would help. That is a very sad day that the homeless in our community can't go there for a hot meal. It's the only place in town they can.

Today was a distribution for our Care N Share clients. The participants received an additional package. We call it an Easter Breakfast. A ready to cook assortment of breakfast foods. 2 dozen fresh eggs, pancake mix, bag of oats, box of instant oatmeal, Cheerios cereal, shelf stable milk, granola bar, peanut butter and jelly, spinach, potatoes, pineapple chunks, mandarin oranges and a bag of rice. Just a little something extra to help our Seniors make it easier.

A big shout out to my always available volunteers Debra Herrey and Catherine Mullins of the Rebekah's and the help for the extra work today Victoria Morton , and Noah Bulkowski Thank you for all you do to help keep the food distribution going.
