Construction on this pedestrian safety improvement project is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 15. This project will install enhanced crossing treatments at eight locations along the busy 1st Street and Front Street corridors.

Pedestrian safety enhancements include ADA curb ramps, curb extensions, pedestrian flashing beacons, advanced signage and channelization.

Work will begin with improvements to four mid-block crosswalks in the downtown area, located between Lincoln and Oak Streets.

Residents, visitors and business owners can expect intermittent single lane closures, bike lane closures, and sidewalk closures in the work zone. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained at all times.

𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤:
Crews will perform sewer repairs on Francis Street, between Victoria and 2nd Streets. Work will begin on June 15 and is expected to be complete on June 30.

While 9/11 Memorial Park will remain open during regular hours, the vehicle entrance to the park will be closed. The parking lot will not be accessible while sewer repairs are underway.

We appreciate your patience while work is underway. To see full details, including project maps, please visit: cityofpa.us/m/newsflash/home/detail/2032

What’s next for Port Angeles Public Works? 🚧

The N Street Reconstruction Project is bringing important improvements to residents in west Port Angeles. In this video, Transportation Engineer Tim Hayes shares a look at this project and how we’re able to move it forward with grant funding.

While construction won’t begin until next year, design work is already underway. Once complete, the roadway will be fully reconstructed, improving underlying drainage issues, adding ADA sidewalk ramps, traffic calming, and a new shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists.

Wastewater Wednesday 💧

Ever wonder what happens when you use the dishwasher, drain the bathtub, or flush the toilet? It flows through the City's 100+ miles of sewer line to get to the Port Angeles Wastewater Treatment Plant.

From there, it goes through three different processes to treat and disinfect the water before its safely released into the strait, east of the Port Angeles harbor.

Our wastewater utility team works around the clock to oversee this process, protecting the health of our residents and our environment. We thank you!

Some of what our public works team does is easy to spot. Other work, like managing wastewater or keeping emergency vehicles road-ready, happens behind the scenes. You may not always see it, but you can count on it every day.

Here's a quick look at what our staff do:

🔸Maintain streets and sidewalks
🔸Manage stormwater and wastewater
🔸Operate transfer stations and offer curbside solid waste collection
🔸Provide electricity and clean drinking water
🔸Support engineering projects and maintain our fleet

From the streets we drive to the water in our taps, public works is truly all around us!

‼Heads Up Port Angeles‼

During the evening of Thursday, April 30, eastbound US 101 traffic leaving Port Angeles will move onto a new bridge. The new bridge is located between North Baker Street and South Del Guzzi Drive.

The upcoming change is a major milestone for the fish barrier removal project.

Westbound traffic will remain unchanged. To keep people moving and continue the project toward completion, the changes will temporarily separate eastbound and westbound traffic at Ennis Creek. The roadway will remain this way for approximately two weeks.

Travelers can also expect single-lane closures between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Once that work is complete, westbound traffic will move onto the new bridge. Ennis Creek will remain in that configuration through the summer of 2026. Crews will then complete the remainder of the bridges at both Lees and Ennis Creek.

Real-time information is available through the WSDOT Travel Center Map.
