The Clallam County Genealogical Society is proud to present a preview of the southern portion of our future mural. We have partnered with local artist Melissa Klein to develop the mural design and composition to reflect the ancestral people of Clallam County. The western facing portion of the mural remains in the design phase. Painting will begin later this year as we get the appropriate permitting completed and the weather improves. Preparations for our major improvements project began last year, with building improvements both inside and out. We repainted the outside of the building, restored the roof, and improved our media and computing capabilities and internet connection. Improvements to date, have been accomplished primarily with grants, donations and volunteer work. We are off to an exciting venture to highlight our Genealogy Research Center! Stay tuned for future design updates and fund-raising activities. Please consider making a donation to our mural project today.

Sunday, November 16
Membership Meeting (Monthly Meeting)
2:00 pm
Research Center 403 E. 8th, Port Angeles
Karen Trager will present “Researching Family History: One Author’s Journey Into Her Family and Herself”
Karen left her law practice to write the award winning book, My Soul is Filled With Joy: A Holocaust Story which chronicles her in-laws’ survival during WWII. Her latest book explores her immigrant Jewish family’s unique history and contributions to Seattle’s business and Jewish Communities. We are meeting Sunday afternoon to accommodate our speaker.

Sunday, November 16th at 2:00pm, the Clallam Genealogical Society will host Author and Genealogist, Karen Treiger who will present “Researching Family History – One Author’s Journey into Her Family and Herself.”
Karen Treiger was born in Seattle and attended Barnard College and NYU Law School, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. After retiring from her law practice in 2015, Karen dedicated herself to researching and writing her family histories. After three years of work, Karen published her first book, My Soul is Filled with Joy: A Holocaust Story. In it, Treiger chronicles both Sam and Esther's journey, including Sam’s escape from the death camp Treblink, and their survival in Polish forest where they hid until their liberation. As Treiger became inspired by the people she encountered, Sam and Esther’s story became her story too. The book won the PNWA Nancy Pearl Book Award for Best Memoir and the Bronze Medal in World History from the Independent Publisher's Association.
Her second book, Standing on the Crack: Legacy of Five Jewish Families from Seattle’s Vibrant Gilded Age was recently published. It is the story of Karen’s search for her ancestors who settled in Seattle. Researching their story, she learned of their difficulties and tragedies as well as business and personal successes.
Karen provides an outstanding example of how genealogical research can be transformed into the “Story”, and the story is what makes family history captivating.
She will present the program via Zoom. To get the zoom codes, contact the Genealogical Society by email: [email protected] or by phone: 360-417-5000, or watch the presentation at the CCGS Research Center located in Port Angeles at 403 E. 8th Street.
