What have your Local 656 firefighters been up to this week?

This week each shift participated in their mandatory training block -- a training day where a few FFs from another shift and our Community Paramedics cover as many calls as possible to allow an entire shift to participate in longer, specialized, or more complex drills for the day.

This quarter's training block, developed by our shift officers, focused on aerial apparatus operations, commercial structure fires, and rescue of a victim using both the aerial ladder and ground ladders.

We're lucky to have these dedicated training days a few times a year, giving us the opportunity to test our bread & butter skills and to build on more specialized skills, such as shore-based water rescue and Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (our previous two training blocks).

Training like this helps keep us ready to meet our community's needs! 🔥

Don’t be alarmed! The Port Angeles Fire Department (along with our public safety partners) will be training at Jefferson Elementary School TODAY 🏫

You may notice several fire and police vehicles in and around the school throughout the day. This is only a training exercise as we work to stay sharp and prepared to serve our community.

DECEMBER RECAP

🔥 We closed out our busy year with a month of 521 calls for service!

🔥 We ran our most successful Operation Candy Cane yet, bringing in over 10,000 lbs of food and over $3,000 in cash donations to the PA Food Bank! We got soaked in the rain nearly every night, but as always, it was one of the most fun weeks of the year!

🔥 We got to join Clallam 2 Professional Firefighters Local 5177 for their annual 5 Alarm Christmas, where we adopt a few families and help Santa deliver presents in the fire engine.

🔥 We were able to join our neighboring departments and participate in Clallam County Shop With A Hero, another one of our favorite annual events!
