The days are shorter, the air is cooler, and autumn is on its way. With the changing of the seasons, the Parks & Recreation Department will remove the floating docks from City Pier on September 24, 2026.

This work is performed each fall to prevent storm damage caused by seasonal changes in wind and storm patterns. The floats will be safely stored and returned to the City Pier for Memorial Day in 2027.

Additionally, floating docks will be temporarily removed from the Ediz Hook Boat Launch on October 16, after the last opening for salmon fishing. These floats will also be reinstalled in the spring.

We enjoyed serving you this season and look forward to welcoming you back next spring! https://www.cityofpa.us/m/newsflash/home/detail/2070

Shane Park Update

As you may know, the playground at Shane Park is closed as we prepare to remove several hazardous trees from the area. These trees have been identified as dead and hazardous by the City’s Forester and Arborist. Because they’re located so close to the playground area, keeping the playground closed remains necessary to protect our park goers from the risk of falling branches.

Since the closure in mid-June, the City has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for professional tree removal services. While the process has taken longer than anticipated, we are hopeful that this work will be completed by the second week of September.

We understand that this delay has been frustrating, and we appreciate your patience as we complete the required steps to safely reopen the playground. We‘ll provide updates here as this work moves forward. You can also subscribe to receive City news via email at https://cityofpa.us/list.aspx

The Shane Park Playground will be temporarily closed beginning Monday, June 15, while preparations are made for the removal of high-risk trees. The trees identified for removal have died and pose a ri

As National Park and Recreation Month comes to a close, we hope you continue to visit each one of our parks and facilities throughout the year. Whether you're riding the pump track, playing pickleball at Elks, or spending quality time with family at one of our many other city parks, we hope you'll continue to celebrate the power of play, nature, community, belonging, and the people who help make these experiences possible.

During Parks & Recreation Month we would like to recognize the Senior Center!

Did You Know... The Port Angeles Senior & Community Center is a key division of our department. Established in 1995, their mission is to develop and manage programs to encourage physical, intellectual, emotional, and social well-being for citizens ages 45+ in a safe and open environment.

The Senior Center is a place of connection and support for so many. In 2025, 148 (WOW!) volunteers hosted and participated in various programs and activities, and members participated in over 13,150 hours of programming and classes!

Thank you, Port Angeles Senior Center, for all you do for the community and Happy Parks & Rec Month!
