We're getting excited for the 2026 kelp monitoring season! This is 2025 aerial imagery of the kelp beds we monitor in Clallam Bay and Freshwater Bay.

False color is used here to represent near-infrared light. Kelp is shown as red speckling. The edge of the kelp bed from our 2025 monitoring is outlined in light blue.

If you love to visit our beautiful beaches and would like to contribute to the monitoring of the water's cleanliness, please consider this opportunity. Environmental Health samples the water at multiple sites on the strait through the summer. If you would like to support this effort at one site or many, we could use your help. It is not a difficult task and we will orient you to the details.
