❗ATTENTION❗
Our office will be closed tomorrow, Monday, September 7th, in observance of Labor Day. We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, September 8th.

On-call staff will respond to emergency situations (animal-to-human bite cases, animals in danger, or immediate threats to public safety) ONLY during this time. We will address stray animal reports, nuisance complaints, and trap requests when we resume normal business hours on Tuesday, September 8th.

If you have an emergency situation involving an animal during this time, please dial 911, and they will, in turn, dispatch our on-call officers. Happy Labor Day, everyone!

⭐ Next Up: Michael P. Jospeh Jr.

Michael, our Mosquito Control Field Supervisor, has been a valued member of the West Baton Rouge Parish Government team for the past 16 years!

In his role, Michael helps protect residents and improve the quality of life in our parish by overseeing mosquito control efforts that help create a safer and more comfortable environment for our community.

Throughout his years with the parish, Michael says some of his favorite memories have come from working alongside his dedicated Mosquito Control team. He says what makes West Baton Rouge special is its family-oriented atmosphere where employees feel connected, supported, and truly part of a team.

👏 Thank you, Michael, for your year of dedicated service to West Baton Rouge Parish! We look forward to watching you continue to grow with us. 💙

🏫 Back to school with the West Baton Rouge Health Center!

Our Health Center team was at Cohn Elementary School’s Open House, making sure new students and their families had the information they needed to learn more about the services available right here in West Baton Rouge. And as you can see, there was plenty of fun along the way! 💙

The Health Center offers services for every stage of life, including:

📢HEADS UP RESIDENTS! 📢

We have an update regarding the Court Street Sidewalk Project!

Beginning Wednesday, September 2nd, contractors will begin driving piles for the pedestrian bridge. This portion of the project is expected to take approximately five days to complete.

While work is underway, please use caution when traveling through the area, watch for construction workers and allow extra travel time. Take into consideration any increased noise levels that may occur due to the construction.

Thank you for your patience as we continue making progress on the Court Street Sidewalk Project!

FYI, West Baton Rouge Mosquito Control will be conducting parish-wide spray truck operations this week.

Good Monday morning. Last week, we submitted 26 mosquito samples to the LSU Disease Diagnostic Lab for testing; none tested positive for disease.

To combat mosquito-borne disease vectors throughout WBR Parish, we will be conducting a parish-wide spray this week. Spraying will begin tonight and will continue through Wednesday night (weather permitting).

All parish parks and recreation facilities will also be sprayed this week. Click on the map link for location details. Check back for updates, and remember to be a Skeeter Be**er!

⭐ Next Up: Veldie Duval

Veldie, our Animal Care Administrative Specialist, has been a valued member of the West Baton Rouge Parish Government team for the past year!

In her role, Veldie helps ensure the Animal Shelter’s daily organizations stay organized while also serving as a welcoming face for visitors. She keeps daily tasks on track to fulfill the organizations mission; providing the best possible care for the animals they serve.

Veldie also has a personal connection to the shelter’s mission. She adopted her dog, Rio, after meeting him at the shelter and giving him a forever home.
Veldie says her work is fulfilling because she gets to see the positive impact the shelter makes every day. Not only did she find her own companion through the shelter, but she now gets to help other animals find loving homes by assisting with adoptions and educating the public about responsible pet care.
