S.W. Smith Memorial Public Library The library serves residents of Port Allegany & Eldred Boroughs, Annin, Liberty, & Eldred Townships. S.W.

Smith Memorial Public Library is a free public library serving residents of Port Allegany Borough, Annin Township, Liberty Township, Eldred Borough, and Eldred Township in McKean County, PA. In addition, we provide Inter-library Loan services which provide patrons with materials from other libraries upon request. We operate through a combination of local government and state subsidies, donations a

nd memorials from patrons and community groups, and regular fundraisers. A dynamic Library Board of Trustees is instrumental in helping to provide additional funding and materials.

Happy day two of National Library Week, today is National Library Workers Day!

"Tuesday, April 21, 2026 is National Library Workers Day, a time to recognize library professionals for their expertise and leadership skills in transforming lives and communities through education and lifelong learning. The day also reminds the public that library workers serve as community compasses that lead users to endless opportunities for engagement, enrichment, and development."

"The freedom to read is still being challenged: From January 2025 through March 2026, more than 100 pro-censorship bills were introduced in state legislatures. At least 40 bills would penalize libraries and library workers with lawsuits, fines, or even jail time for protecting people’s the right to read. "

Pop in for an all-ages story hour after school this Thursday with Richard Impriano, Jr., Author of Billy's Big Adventure! Come do a craft, grab a snack, and enjoy the story as read by the author.

No April Foolin' here! Story hour this week includes a special bonus for our stuffed animal friends!

Bring your teddy bears and stuffies for snacks and a story, and sign them up for a special overnight visit at the library!

Story Hour from 10 - 11am is usually for ages birth-6. For our special event, however, children of all ages are welcome to stop in, grab a snack, read a story, and drop off their stuffed animals until 4:00!
