Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, Port Senior Center will be CLOSED! A planned power outage from Penelec. Also we will reschedule the birthday party. 🥳Anyone wanting to order lunches for 8/24-8/28, must call your order in before August 18th. We are closed on the usual call in day!

🌫️ Code Purple Air Quality Alert for Tomorrow

The air quality in our area is expected to reach Code Purple tomorrow, which can be especially tough for older adults and anyone with breathing concerns.

The Port Allegany Senior Center will be open from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. If you need a breath of fresh air, a safe space, or just a break from the haze, feel free to stop in.

⚠️ IMPORTANT AIR QUALITY ALERT FOR THE PORT ALLEGANY COMMUNITY ⚠️
Hello everyone! We want to make sure all of our wonderful members, friends, and neighbors in McKean County stay safe and healthy over the next couple of days.
Due to Canadian wildfire smoke drifting south, our area is under active air quality alerts:
🔴 Today, July 16th: RED ALERT (Unhealthy)
The air quality is unhealthy for everyone, but especially for older adults, children, and those with respiratory or heart conditions.
🟠 Tomorrow, July 17th: ORANGE ALERT (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups)
While slightly improved, conditions remain hazardous for seniors and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
Because your health is our absolute top priority, we highly encourage everyone to take a few simple precautions:
🏡 Stay Indoors: Please keep your windows and doors closed. Use air conditioning if you have it, set to "recirculate" so you aren't pulling in smoky air from outside.
🏃‍♂️ Postpone Outdoor Activity: Save the gardening, outdoor walks, and errands for another day.
😷 Wear the Right Mask: If you absolutely must go outside, a standard cloth mask won't filter out fine smoke particles. Use a well-fitted N95 or KN95 mask.
💧 Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help soothe your throat and airways.
❤️ Check on Neighbors: Let’s look out for one another! Give your friends, neighbors, and loved ones a quick phone call to make sure they are comfortable and have what they need.
Are you experiencing symptoms?
Keep an eye out for coughing, shortness of breath, stinging eyes, scratchy throat, or chest pain. If you or someone you know is struggling to breathe, please seek medical attention right away.
The Port Senior Center is keeping a close eye on the conditions. Stay cool, stay inside, and don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything.

Port Senior Center is a ‘cooling station’, and Tuesday temperatures could reach 100 🥵, between 11 am and 8 pm. If you want to step inside, have a bottle of water, or just breathe cooler air, stop in!
