Twenty-five years after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost in New York City, at the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

We honor the survivors and families whose lives were forever changed, and the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, emergency managers, public servants and communities who responded in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

As we mark this solemn anniversary, FEMA remains committed to remembering those we lost, serving communities and strengthening our nation’s preparedness and resilience for generations to come.

The heat continues on this week - an exteme heat warning will be in effect again today from 11 am to 8 pm. Drink plenty of water, stay indoors in the AC when possible and avoid strenous activities during the peak heating of the day. Don't leave any people or pets in cars!

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency will open five Disaster Service Centers at noon on Tuesday, August 18, to serve residents who suffered damage during Tropical Storm Arthur on June 18–20, 2026 (DR-4930-MS).

The centers will provide application assistance to residents in these four counties: Hancock, Harrison, Pearl River and Stone.

Individuals in the approved counties can apply for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or by using the FEMA App. If you use a relay service, such as a video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service, or others, provide FEMA with the number for that service. The disaster number is DR-4930.

9 am- UPDATE
All lanes of I-59 are completely reopened. Thank you for your patience as crews worked to get the roadway back open.

Please use caution if traveling Northbound on I-59. The right lane is shut down in the area of the 12-mile marker. Expect delays and slow-moving traffic while crews work in the area.

If possible, consider an alternate route and give yourself extra travel time. Please slow down, stay alert, and move over for emergency personnel working.
