2d SFAB is working day in and day out around the continent.

—Townsend specifically praised the U.S. Army's security force assistance brigade. "For well over a year now, we've had an SFAB operating in Africa," he said. The 2nd SFAB is based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and is aligned with the 3rd Special Forces Group, which also has Africa as its specialty.

The unit is organized in teams — maneuver teams, fires teams, engineer teams, logistics teams, and so on — that deploy to Africa to train, advise and assist. These are elite units, Townsend said, and they are not only great at their specialties, but in being able to pass that knowledge along. "These folks are pretty high quality, and I've been very happy with them," he said.

The unit has about 20 teams deployed constantly, and they're working in a number of priority countries.

Africa is a continent of tremendous potential and tremendous danger. It is U.S. Africa Command

Today all the hardwork and dedication became a reality for SSG Casey as he earned the title “Ranger”! He has served as a Maintenance Advisor with 3rd Squadron, 2d SFAB for the past 36 months and has excelled at every turn. His path through Ranger school was no different making it through every phase with a first time go. - RLTW

"Above all, we must realize that no arsenal or no weapon in the arsenals of the world is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have. It is a weapon that we as Americans do have. Let that be understood by those who practice terrorism and prey upon their neighbors." - R. Reagan

This week's Advisor Spotlight is on SSG William Stockdale. SSG Stockdale is the Squadron's Supply Sergeant and has been with the Squadron for over 3 years.

CSM: "Why did you join the SFAB?"

SSG Stockdale: "I had already served in Ranger Regiment and in the 173rd so I was looking for something different and wanted to expand my knowledge and skills, not just as a supply guy but as a Soldier.”

CSM: "What all have you done or accomplished since you have been assigned to the SFAB?"

SSG Stockdale: "I deployed to Afghanistan for 9 months where I flew around to almost ever camp acquiring items and equipment for the Squadron to establish a more permanent footprint (at that time) with our Afgan partners. I got to go to Griffin Group’s Drivers training course and executed multiple live fires. Then we deployed to Tunisia for 6 Months where I coordinated all life support for the Battalion Headquarters and assisted the Office of Security Cooperation U.S. Embassy Tunisia with their Tunisian equipment inventories.

CSM: "Last two questions; with what you know now, would you still have volunteered for the SFAB and what/where are you going next?"

SSG Stockdale: "Yes, because of the knowledge gained and experiences I had. I would highly recommend any 92Ys looking for a challenge to volunteer, they won’t regret it. For my next assignment, I am headed to Egypt to Task Force Sinai to be their S4 NCOIC.

CSM: "Thanks for sitting down with me and good luck with your next assignment!"

Today's Advisor Spotlight features SSG Thomas from the Squadron S6 Section. SSG Thomas is a 25B and has been with the Squadron since it was activated over 3 years ago.

CSM: "Why did you join the SFAB?"
SSG Thomas: "I was deployed to Kuwait and I wanted a greater challenge/better myself for my next assignment. I saw an AFN commercial for the SFAB and decided that was it, so I volunteered."

CSM: "What all have you done or accomplished since you have been assigned to the SFAB?"
SSG Thomas: "I got train with and use the latest and greatest commo equipment and weapons I have ever seen. I deployed to Afghanistan (9 months) and Tunisia (6 months). While in Afgan, I was the senior Commo Advisor for our camp and controlled all incoming and outgoing aircraft as the LZSO. I trained, competed and earned the German Schuetzenschnur and completed multiple Advisor team live fires..... I have done and accomplished so much since being assigned here, it's hard to include all of it.

CSM: "Last two questions; with what you know now, would you still have volunteered for the SFAB and what/where are you going next?"
SSG Thomas: " Absolutely! I cannot think of anywhere else that I would have able to do as much as I have or been given this much responsibility. My next assignment is with the 112th Signal Battalion in Special Operations Command as a Commo Section Chief."

CSM: "Thanks for sitting down with me and good luck with your next assignment!"
