What an incredible day in Charter Township of Commerce, Michigan! The inaugural Heart of the Lakes Festival, sponsored by the Board of Commissioners’ Special Project Fund, brought together families, friends and neighbors for a full day of fun! From live entertainment to local vendors, there was something for everyone.

When asked about why she brought this project forward to be sponsored by the Board, Commissioner Christine Long (District 12) said, “The Bicentennial Celebration was such a success in Commerce Township last year that the township has decided to make it an annual event called The Heart of the Lakes. It was my pleasure to secure a $5,000 sponsorship from the Board’s special project funding to help make this event successful. There is fun for all ages.”

Oakland County is investing in stronger, safer communities. This week, the Board of Commissioners approved $2 million through the Local Road Improvement Program to support more than $27.7 million in road repair and improvement projects across our cities and villages.

These projects are more than pavement. They’re about making everyday travel safer, supporting local businesses, and reducing the frustration caused by aging roads. With each community matching the funding they receive, this is a true partnership in strengthening the places we call home.

Since 2016, the LRIP has invested $19 million into local road construction, maintenance and repair—helping cities large and small tackle essential infrastructure needs.

Better roads mean better neighborhoods. And these investments will be felt every time you travel through your community.

Today, we join communities nationwide in recognizing National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Gun violence impacts families across the country, and safe, responsible gun ownership is essential to protecting our loved ones.

We honor the memories of those lost to gun violence, including the victims of the Oxford High School and Michigan State University tragedies.

From June 5–7, we invite our community to Wear Orange to raise awareness and support prevention efforts.

Together, we can build a safer future. 🧡
