We honor the thousands of innocent lives lost, the first responders and service members who answered the call, and the families and communities who continue to carry their memories.

We remember and honor all those whose lives were changed 25 years ago today. 🇺🇸

Pontiac Parks and Recreation Family Fall Fest returns on October 24 - save the date! 🍂

Fall is nearly here. What better way to celebrate the fall season than at Chautauqua Park on October 24th for our annual Fall Fest? It will run from 3:00-6:00pm and feature DJ Jay, balloon artist Doug Smith from the Unique Twist, Trunk-or-Treat, inflatables, train ride, hayrack ride, food & craft vendors, petting zoo, and more!

On Saturday, the City of Pontiac celebrated the unveiling of the new America 250 Mural. Designed by Diaz Sign Art, it is located on the north side of The Eagle Performing Arts & Conference Center. Mayor Kelly Eckhoff, Community Enrichment Director Liz Vincent, Angelique Grandone of the Illinois Arts Council, and Ben & Joe Diaz all spoke during the ceremony.

This mural was made possible by a grant through Illinois Arts Council and was completed by volunteers from the Greater Livingston County Arts Council.

Diaz designed the mural with the following concepts in mind:

"We also call it the 3Cs mural. The image inside each number represents an aspect of Pontiac and Livingston County that helps tell the story of our community and what makes us American.

In the number 2, we have an image of one of our beautiful parks and one of our swinging bridges. This number represents the first C, “Connection”, not only the connections we make with family and friends in our parks, but also the important role these bridges played in Pontiac’s history. When they were originally constructed, they helped connect one side of town to the other, allowing people to cross the river and commute to factories and businesses.

The number 5 features the Civil War monument on the corner of our town square and represents “Courage”, the courage of the men and women of Pontiac and Livingston County who have served in uniform and fought to protect our nation and its freedoms.

And lastly, the number 0 represents “Cultivation”. Pontiac is obviously a very agriculture-forward community. Farming plays a major role not only in our economy, but also in our culture and identity. We are part of the breadbasket of America."

This year, we’re stepping into A Christmas in Toyland, bringing a little extra magic, nostalgia, and holiday cheer to the streets of downtown. Bring the whole family, bundle up, and find your spot along the parade route as Pontiac comes alive with twinkling lights, festive floats, holiday music, and, of course, a special visit from Santa!

Pickup services for the week will be running one day behind your normal schedule due to the holiday. Final collections for the week will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

Honoring Illinois Firefighters — Duty, Pride, and Tradition

A sincere thank you to Senator Chris Balkema for this picture that honors the men and women who have given so much to protect others.

The Illinois Firefighter Memorial is dedicated to the firefighters of Illinois who have given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve with courage, pride, and honor.

The idea for an official Illinois firefighter memorial began in 1993, when the Illinois Fire Services Association unanimously agreed that a monument should be created to honor firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice. That vision became reality on May 13, 1999, when the memorial was unveiled and dedicated on the southwest corner of the State Capitol lawn in Springfield.

The memorial features an original bronze sculpture consisting of four life-size firefighters in full gear, a child, a ladder, and a hose. The figures stand on a 14-foot-high cairn made of Renaissance stone, surrounded by 2,400 red paver bricks.

This memorial stands as a lasting reminder of the sacrifice, courage, and dedication of Illinois firefighters. It gives us a place to remember those who made the supreme sacrifice and to honor those who continue to answer the call to serve.

We remember those who gave everything. We honor those who continue to serve. And we will never forget their sacrifice.
