A Tornado Watch has been issued until 10pm.

05/17/2026

The chance of a tornado developing this evening has climbed in east-central Nebraska (Omaha/Council Bluffs/Lincoln/Wahoo).

A quick look at our history suggests this is the highest forecast probability of a tornado in the Omaha area since June 2014.

This is a morning run of one weather model. It reflects the general expected timing of storms and locations across the area. Exact timing and locations of storm cells will be somewhat different, of course. These storms will be capable of large hail, damaging winds up to 75+ mph, and powerful tornadoes.

Be sure to know where to seek shelter.

Severe weather risks increase after sunset tonight and then peak late Sunday afternoon and into the early overnight hours.

Given the risks ahead, be sure you are able to check each of these boxes off. The best way to be prepared is to have a plan!
