COMMUNITY ADVISORY | GRAFFITI INVESTIGATION

The Pompton Lakes Police Department is aware of graffiti that has appeared at various locations throughout the Borough. These incidents have been under investigation for some time, and our Detective Bureau has been actively working to identify the individual or individuals responsible.

As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives have reviewed available evidence and developed investigative leads that are currently being followed up on. To protect the integrity of the investigation, we will not be releasing specific details regarding those leads or potential suspects at this time.

We take these acts of vandalism seriously. Graffiti damages public and private property, negatively impacts the appearance of our community, and creates unnecessary costs for property owners and the Borough.

We are also asking for the community’s assistance. Anyone who has information regarding these incidents, has witnessed suspicious activity, or may have relevant surveillance or doorbell camera footage is encouraged to contact the Pompton Lakes Police Department at 973-835-0400 (tel:973-835-0400). Even information that may seem insignificant could be helpful to our investigation.

If you discover new graffiti, please report it to the Police Department and do not confront anyone you believe may be responsible.

We also ask residents to refrain from publicly identifying or speculating about potential suspects on social media. Information regarding possible suspects should be provided directly to the Police Department so it can be properly investigated.

The Pompton Lakes Police Department will continue working to identify those responsible and hold them accountable. We appreciate the community’s cooperation and assistance in protecting our Borough.

The Pompton Lakes Police Dept. is now hiring substitute crossing guards. This is a great opportunity for retirees and anyone who is interested in making additional money. The position pays $24.97 an hour for substitute crossing guards. We will train and provide uniforms to anyone who is a fit. This is a perfect opportunity to serve the community. Applications can be picked up at police headquarters and will be accepted from now until September 11, 2026. Forte, and Class III Officers Locilento, Bannon, O’Donnell and Keil for everything you do to keep our schools safe!! Happy first day of school and here’s to the start of another wonderful school year!!

In Memory of Sergeant Peter Kamper Jr. — E.O.W. August 9, 2017

Today marks nine years since the Pompton Lakes Police Department lost Sergeant Peter Kamper Jr.

Late last night, as we approached the anniversary of Pete’s passing, members of our department gathered at the bridge where his tragic accident occurred. We took a few moments together to remember Pete, reflect on his life and service, and honor a brother officer who remains very much a part of our department.

Nine years have passed, but Pete has never been forgotten. Those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him remember his personality, his friendship, his dedication to the department, and the impact he had on everyone around him. His memory continues to live on within the Pompton Lakes Police Department and among those who knew and loved him.

Today, we ask our community to join us in remembering Sgt. Peter Kamper Jr. — for his service to Pompton Lakes and, most importantly, for the man behind the badge: a loving husband, wonderful son, devoted brother, proud uncle, loyal friend, and brother officer.

Rest easy, Pete. Nine years later, we still remember, and we always will.

The Pompton Lakes Police Department has been an accredited police department from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police since 2023. Currently, we are in the process of re-accreditation in order to be a certified agency for the next three years. It is a very extensive but rewarding achievement to accomplish. In response to concerns raised by residents and the Mayor and Council regarding parking, traffic, pedestrian safety, and other quality-of-life issues, Lt. Klepacky of the Pompton Lakes Police Department has been spending time on Wanaque Avenue assessing these concerns firsthand. His presence in the downtown area allows him to personally observe conditions, engage with business owners and residents, when appropriate, enforce violations, and provide feedback and recommendations so we can determine whether additional measures are warranted. If you see Lt. Klepacky or any PLPD officer on Wanaque Ave, please stop and say hello!
