COMMUNITY GUN BUYBACK EVENT

Help make our Pompano Beach community safer by turning in unwanted fi****ms. No questions asked. Join us Saturday, June 6th from 10am to 2pm at E. Pat Larkins Center where residents can safely surrender fi****ms anonymously and receive compensation for eligible weapons. All fi****ms must be unloaded.

Together, we can reduce gun violence, prevent accidental shootings, and promote safer neighborhoods.

Yesterday, deputies assigned to the Broward Sheriff's Office Pompano Beach District were honored with several prestigious awards. Deputy Kutlus was named Deputy of the Year, the Area Two Criminal Investigations Detectives and the Pompano Beach Real-Time Crime Center each received the Grand Cordon Achievement Award, and many deputies were recognized with the Lifesaving Award. Congratulations to all for your outstanding dedication, service, and commitment to the community!

Yesterday Major Ellwood presented Lieutenant Hopkins with an Eagle Plaque in recognition of her outstanding service and dedication.

Prior to her promotion, Lt. Hopkins served as the Administrative Sergeant in the Pompano Beach District. In that capacity, she successfully oversaw numerous projects and ensured their timely completion, including the West Substation in Collier City.

From my first day as sheriff, I made a promise the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) would keep Broward County safe while operating at the highest professional standards. That commitment led me to establish the Office of Inspector General (OIG) in 2021, embedding accountability and transparency into every aspect of BSO’s work.

Through independent organizational oversight, the OIG strengthens our services through three divisions: Internal Affairs and Public Corruption, Policy and Accountability and Internal Audit. Staffed by both sworn and civilian professionals, these divisions work every day to ensure BSO operations are ethical, efficient and fiscally responsible.
