Since its organization in 1985, the Rockland County Volunteer Fire Services Museum has provided the public with an in-depth look at the history of the fire service. Featuring artifacts from all 26 of Rockland County's volunteer fire departments, the museum allows visitors to see the fascinating technological advances over the last 150 years. Visitors can travel back in time while looking over hund

reds of fire department memorabilia and records on display and can even get a close-up look at antique fire apparatus... minus the horses! Located at the Rockland County Fire Training Center, the Rockland County Volunteer Fire Services Museum holds tours for schools, camps and other establishments.

It is sadness that the RC Volunteer Fire Services Museum announces the passing of Charter Member Joyce Browne. Joyce was also active in the RCVFA Ladies Auxiliary. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 19th, 4-8pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River. Her funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 20th, 10 am, Saint Margaret’s Church, also in Pearl River. Repast will follow at South Spring Valley Firehouse.

We mourn the loss of Joyce, and, she, her family, and friends are in our prayers at this time. May she rest in eternal peace.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Roberta G. Doremus of Tallman, New York on June 5, 2025. Roberta, age 82, was born to the late Charles Ackerson and Gladys (Hopper) Ackerson on October 6, 1942 in Suffern, New York. She is pre-deceased by her loving husband George Doremus after 53 years of wonderful marriage. She is survived by her beloved children, daughter, Doreen (Doremus) Zarcone and son-in-law Robert Zarcone, and son Robert Doremus Sr. (Kelly DePaolis) and adored grandchildren Dominick Zarcone, Robert Doremus Jr., and Gina Zarcone. She is also survived by her sisters, Ethel (Essie) (Ackerson) Doody and Darlene (Ackerson) Rothaupt, and brother Charles Ackerson and many more family and friends.

Roberta was a devoted and well-respected volunteer among the Rockland County community for her service to volunteer fire organizations and received many honors and awards. She served as the President for three terms and Treasurer of the Tallman Ladies Auxiliary of the Tallman Fire Department for 65 years. Roberta is a 59 year member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rockland County Volunteer Firefighters Association and served as the President, Treasurer, and Ramapo West Director. She is a charter member of the Rockland County Firefighters Museum established in 1972 and served as its Treasurer. Roberta served as the Tallman Fire District Treasurer for over 20 years and past President and Treasurer for the Association of Fire Districts of Rockland County for over 25 years.

Roberta was employed by Orange and Rockland Utilities as a Senior Administration Coordinator for 40 years and was awarded the coveted Con Edison "Living Our Values" award, which recognizes employees who demonstrate the company's core values.

Her favorite hobby was motorhoming and she enjoyed time in Vermont with her companion Dave. She was active in several senior clubs in the Town of Ramapo.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 from 4-8 p.m. at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, New York, 10901. The fire service community will honor her at 7:30 p.m. during the visitation. A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. also at Wanamaker and Carlough with entombment to follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Paramus, New Jersey.

In remembrance of her life, the family requests that charitable donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Tallman Fire Department Memorial Fund.

With sadness, the RCV Fire Services Museum regrets to announce the passing of Museum Trustee Stewart Rhymer. In addition to Museum Trustee, Stewart was also a member of Hillcrest FD, was on the Rockland County Fire Advisory Board and was a Director and Chaplain of the Rockland County Volunteer Firefighters Association.

Services will be held this Saturday, May 10th, at St. Paul’s A.M.E. Zion Church at 121 Harriet Tubman Way in Spring Valley, NY. Firematic Services will begin at 11:00 AM.

Please keep good thoughts and prayers for his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
