Thank you, Senator Blumenthal.

Why won’t Sec. Mullin rescind the memo calling for ICE to enter private property without a judicial warrant?

In reply to my letter DHS claims they've “paused the practice." Out of overdue respect for basic decency & law, they should just stop abuse that violates the 4th Amendment.

Important information for folks who normally get a ballot mailed to them due to disability

I normally get a ballot mailed to me automatically because I am disabled. Due to the short amount of time between the town meeting and the change to having a referendum, that was not possible.
I called Townhall and there was a way for them to send me a form which I could print and send back and what seem to be a better solution was to be able to drive there and a ballot will be brought out to me. I wanted to make sure that all persons who have mobility issues are aware that they have the option of going to the senior center, and if they’re unable to go in, they can have somebody go in and let the registrars know that someone is outside who needs a ballot.
There may be people even at Sealy Brown, who are not aware of the changes; I spoke to the Director and she wasn’t aware. She is going to put up a notice so that folks there will know about the vote tomorrow and how they could get assistance if needed.
Please share this with any disabled people that may not have this information.

Thanks, Pat and Governor Lamont. We were hoping for this news.

Thanks, Pat and Governor Lamont. We were hoping for this news.

All 7 towns in the 50th House District are seeing increased education funding due to a new Supplemental Education Grant and an increase in the Pequot Fund, which passed on Saturday night as part of the State Budget Adjustments. We are bringing more support to our local schools. This win is the result of working directly with our local Boards and with Governor Ned Lamont to ensure the "Quiet Corner" isn't left behind. I've been in contact with our First Selectman, Mayor & Superintendents with the exact numbers per town.

Pomfret Budgets to be Presented at Monday Public Hearing,
Citizen Input Sought

First Selectman Maureen Nicholson, Board of Education Chair Leigh Grossman, and Board of Finance Chair Norine Reingold encourage Pomfret residents to attend the Public Hearing on Monday, April 27, at Pomfret Community School. The Board of Finance is seeking public input as it finalizes the proposed Fiscal Year 2026–2027 budget. The hearing will be held in the school cafeteria at 6:30 PM.

The proposed budgets for Fiscal Year 2026–2027 were presented to the Board of Finance on March 9. On April 6, the Board of Finance took action and requested reductions of $20,000 from the General Government budget and $80,000 from the Board of Education budget.

The current proposed budgets, reflecting these reductions, are as follows:

Board of Education: $12,160,903, representing an increase of $438,031 (3.73%) over the current budget of $11,722,872.

General Government: $3,576,769, representing an increase of $139,259 (4.05%) over the current budget of $3,407,614.

At these preliminary levels, the combined proposed budget totals $15,737,672. The Board of Finance has approved the use of $250,000 from the Town’s unassigned fund balance to help offset the mill rate. Based on current estimates, this would result in an approximate 1.41 mill increase over the prior year. This proposed level of spending is 3.81% over last year and incorporates the current rate of inflation of 3.3%*. The spending plan has not been set by the Board of Finance.

The Board of Finance will make its final budget recommendation after receiving public comment at the Public Hearing on April 27 at 6:30 PM at Pomfret Community School. Comments may also be submitted by email to: [email protected] or mailed/delivered to: Pomfret Board of Finance, 5 Haven Road, Pomfret, CT.

Copies of the proposed budgets are available on the Town’s website: https://www.pomfretct.gov/board-of-finance

The current mill rate is 20.725, which includes 19.89 mills for the Town portion and 0.835 mills for the Fire District portion.

The final mill rate will be established following the Annual Meetings in May of both the Town and the Fire District, at which their respective budgets will be voted on for the 2026–2027 fiscal year.

* For the 12 months ending March 2026, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data released April 10, 2026.

The role of the Pomfret Board of Finance is to consider and maintain the overall financial condition of the Town, assuring the maximum value in services and reasonable taxation of its citizens.
