Sgt. Sherman received the Iowa DPS Commissioner's Award for Impaired Driving Enforcement at the annual Governors Traffic Safety Conference.

Sgt. Sherman received the award for his efforts in removing impaired drivers from our roadways, his leadership in the impaired driving enforcement efforts of our agency, and his commitment to training in impaired driving enforcement. Sgt. Sherman is a supervisor on the evening and night shifts, a Standardized Field Sobriety Tests Instructor, trained in Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement skills, and the agency's representative with the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force.

We are aware of the concerns regarding traffic flow due to the detour on Northside Drive. Reminder that you may not drive around barricades that state the road is closed to through traffic. Please follow the appropriate detours. Barricades that allow limited traffic flow are set out with the intent to detour through traffic, while maintaining sufficient egress and ingress for that neighborhood’s residents. Please be patient with the inconveniences of roadway improvements being made. The improvements will be worth it in the end.

As another school year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on all the great moments shared throughout the year with the students, staff, and families in our community.

Each year, we make it a priority to remain visible, approachable, and present around our schools. This year, we proudly added North Polk school pride graphics to our patrol vehicles as another way to show our support and dedication to the students, staff, and the entire community we serve.

Congratulations to everyone on a great school year! Have a fun, safe, and well-deserved summer break! ☀️

Last weekend was a great morning at the 5th Annual Cops & Bobbers event hosted by the Iowa DNR and Polk City Police Department! 🎣 From great fishing to great conversations, the event was filled with fun and positive community interactions.

We want to sincerely thank all of our volunteers and sponsors who helped make the day possible. A special thank you goes out to the Iowa Youth Fishing League for bringing games and activities that everyone enjoyed.

To everyone who came out and spent part of their morning with us — thank you! We appreciate the continued support and look forward to making next year’s event even bigger and better.
