The Point Pleasant Borough Police Department is proud to continue its partnership with 7-Eleven through the Operation Chill® program. This program gives our officers a unique opportunity to recognize and reward local children who are seen doing good deeds, making positive choices, and setting a great example within our community.
Whether it’s wearing a bicycle helmet, following traffic safety rules, buckling their seatbelt, recycling, picking up litter, helping a neighbor, turning in a lost item, or simply showing kindness to others, our officers will be on the lookout for kids making a positive impact.
Officers will be handing out free Operation Chill Slurpee® coupons to children they observe demonstrating positive behavior and being outstanding role models in our community.
Thank you to 7-Eleven for continuing to partner with law enforcement agencies across the country to help strengthen positive relationships between police officers and the communities they serve.

At last night’s Borough Council meeting, the Point Pleasant Police Department and Borough Council proudly recognized the legacy of Retired Sergeant Hugh V. Hughes by officially dedicating the department’s Records Bureau in his memory.

In 1984, while on duty as a police officer, Sgt. Hughes suffered a massive heart attack. Remarkably, he drove himself to Point Pleasant Hospital, where he thankfully recovered. Although his medical condition required him to retire early from active police service, then-Chief Robert Cooper later rehired him as a civilian employee to establish and operate the first official Records Department for the Point Pleasant Police Department.

Sgt. Hughes led and managed the Records Bureau with dedication and professionalism until his retirement, creating a foundation that continues to serve the department and community today.

Chief Christopher Leonhardt presented Sgt. Hughes’ family with a commemorative plaque that will be permanently displayed outside the entrance to the Records Bureau in honor of his service and lasting contributions to the department.

The Point Pleasant Police Department proudly participated in the 2026 Police Unity Tour, a 4-day, nearly 300-mile bike ride from New Jersey to Washington, D.C., held to honor law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Pictured are Sgt. Brian Fennessy, Officer Henrich, and Officer Tobias, who completed the ride alongside officers from across New Jersey and the country. Also pictured is retired Chief Adam Picca who supported the department and the riders throughout the event. The Police Unity Tour is a meaningful way to remember and honor the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We are proud of our officers for their hard work, dedication, and participation in this important event. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the Police Unity Tour and help keep the memory of our fallen heroes alive.

🚨 Police Youth Summer Camp 2026—Applications Available Soon! 🚨
We’re excited to announce that our Annual Police Youth Summer Camp is just around the corner!
Preliminary applications will be available starting at 10:00 AM on May 1st, 2026.
There are two ways to apply:
🔹 Online – An online preliminary application submission link will be posted right here on our page.
🔹 In Person – Pick up a physical preliminary application at Police Headquarters, 2233 Bridge Ave.
📌 Please note: Spots are limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Priority will be given to applicants who have not attended in previous years.
We can’t wait for another amazing summer with the Campers. Stay tuned, and be ready to apply!
Eligible campers are Point Pleasant residents who are entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade. All information related to the specifics of the Summer Camp requirements and dates will be outlined in the preliminary application.

Parents, Guardians, and Members of the Senior Class,


The Point Pleasant Borough School District and the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department are issuing this joint message regarding the senior "Assassin" game currently being played in our community.

While this may have started as harmless fun, several recent incidents have crossed the line into unsafe and concerning behavior. Although we do not believe these events occurred on school grounds, actions throughout the community have raised serious safety concerns for students, residents, and law enforcement.

We are strongly advising that all aspects of this game stop immediately. This includes any planning, participation, or related activity.

Parents and guardians are asked to speak with their children about the seriousness of this matter. Students should understand that unsafe decisions can result in disciplinary action, police involvement, and unforeseen consequences.

Our priority is the well-being of our students and the entire community, and we appreciate your partnership in helping keep Point Pleasant Borough safe

The Point Pleasant Police Department is warning residents about fraudulent “arrest warrant” documents being circulated through text messages, emails, and phone calls.
These documents may appear official and often claim charges such as “failure to appear” or “contempt of court,” while demanding immediate payment to avoid arrest.
THIS IS A SCAM.
Red Flags:
• Demands for payment to avoid arrest
• Requests for Bitcoin, gift cards, or wire transfers
• Urgent threats or pressure to act immediately
• Contact from unsolicited texts, emails, or phone calls
Remember:
Law enforcement will NEVER request payment or resolve warrants over the phone, by email, or through electronic payment methods.
What To Do:
• Do not respond or send money
• Do not click any links or share personal information
• Contact your local police department to verify
• Report the incident immediately
Stay alert and share this warning to help protect others.

🚨🚔 Retirement Announcement 🚔 🚨

On March 31, 2026, Sergeant Gene “Geno” Capoano officially retired after 25 years of dedicated service to the residents of Point Pleasant.

Joined by colleagues, town officials, friends, and family, Sgt. Capoano signed off for the final time and completed his walkout—closing out a respected and distinguished career.

His professionalism, leadership, and commitment to the community will not be forgotten. We thank him for his service and wish him all the best in retirement!
