Friendship Hill Association

Friendship Hill Association The Friendship Hill Association is a non-profit volunteer group interested in preserving, developing and maintaining Friendship Hill National Historic Site

The Friendship Hill Association was organized in 1981. The mission of the association is to work in conjunction with and to support the National Park Service and its efforts to preserve and operate Friendship Hill National Historic Site and to discover and memorialize the history of Friendship Hill NHS, the life of Albert Gallatin and the story of the area and its role in the development of the Un

ited States. Albert Gallatin is best remembered for his thirteen year tenure as Secretary of the Treasury during the Jefferson and Madison administrations. In that time he reduced the national debt, purchased the Louisiana Territory and funded the Lewis & Clark exploration. Gallatin's accomplishments and contributions are highlighted at Friendship Hill his restored country estate. FestiFall is sponsored by the Association in conjunction with the National Park Service and will be held September 19-20, 2015. It celebrates the cultural heritage of the region by bringing together artisans demonstrating quality handcrafts, music, and traditional foods of Gallatin's era. This celebration provides a memorable experience for all.

On this day...

May 26th, 1832, the sale agreement between Gallatin and a fellow Swiss immigrant Albin Mellier for Friendship Hill is finalized. Mellier will offer Gallatin $3,500 for the house, all outbuildings and any furniture left in the house as of the end of March. Gallatin reluctantly agrees to this price as he would rather retire and live his remaining days here but agrees to leave at the urging of his family.

This National Volunteer Month, we recognize the contributions made by our Adams NHP volunteers. Our volunteer team has given both their time and energy for special events this year. They have welcomed visitors to the park, provided assistance at the historic homes, supported Visitor Center operations and more. We are grateful for all the work and energy provided by our volunteers and are excited to continue to grow our volunteer opportunities. To our volunteers — thank you for the positive impact you've made at the park!
