The Timber and Plaskett fires are burning through the Los Padres National Forest. This is the same ground the Wildfire Risk Reduction Project was written to defend with fuel breaks near communities. Los Padres ForestWatch publicly takes credit for shrinking and delaying that plan. And they’re still trying to reduce it further.

The Forest Service proposed the Wildfire Risk Reduction Project in 2022 to create fuel breaks and defense zones around communities in Los Padres National Forest. By the time the Timber and Plaskett fires arrived, more than 51,000 acres between them, the Monterey District's community-protection work had not started. And those communities they were trying to protect have now been evacuated.

Los Padres ForestWatch never sued to stop it. It didn't have to. It organized 91 groups with demands to delay and reduce the project.

And Los Padres isn't the only example we're tracking. NEPA Jail follows 279 forest and fuels-reduction projects representing 5.3 million acres of planned treatment that have been challenged. Most of them were reduced or killed outright. Don't take our word for it. Search the record for yourself.

These backcountry airstrips have been around since the 1950’s, and now anti-access orgs are trying to shut them down.

These are not new runways. They have served recreational pilots and emergency response for decades. They reach remote public land without a single mile of new road, and they get search and rescue into country that would otherwise take days to cover on foot.

The pilots fighting for this designation are the ones already maintaining the strips. When a flood wrecked the a runway inside a wilderness study area that prohibits vehicles, 29 volunteers hiked in with hand tools and rebuilt it themselves.

The anti-access orgs already mobilized their followers and have more than 2,500 comments that oppose these airstrips.

Our pilots need our support and the BLM needs to hear from the people who actually use this land. Comment before September 3! Link below!

Yes it can! We were the lead story on ABC news for Colorado River Abundance Act. Fill Lake Powell and Lake Mead!

A white residue – the bathtub ring- stains the sandstone walls of Glen Canyon, showing current water levels to be nearly 200 feet lower than they used to be in Lake Powell, the second-largest reservoir in the Colorado River system. It’s another illustration of a river in crisis from overuse, prolonged drought, and human-caused climate change.

As Utah and six other states continue to debate where to make changes, one group is proposing its own plan to save the river and water resources.

Comments are open on the biggest pro-access rewrite of the Travel Management Rule in twenty years. The U.S. Forest Service wants to know which trails should be reopened, and BRC is hand-delivering yours straight to the Forest Service in D.C. at the end of September.

BREAKING: For twenty years, one rule has produced gridlock, inconsistency, and access loss that motorized recreationists, rural counties, and even land managers themselves have been complaining about for years.

The Travel Management Rule was built on a "minimization" standard that only ever runs one way: toward closure. Any conflict, real or not, becomes a reason to shut a route down. The result has been maps you can't trust, a growing backlog of travel plans, and access decisions made in courtrooms instead of on the ground.

The new proposal scraps that standard, recognizes modern equipment like Class 1 e-bikes, requires motor vehicle use maps that actually stay current, and keeps decisions with the forests closest to the land.
