Early Release Wednesday is happening again this Wednesday, September 2!
As we continue working to make the process smoother and more efficient for our families, a few small changes are being made to improve the car pickup experience. We’ll share more information about those updates tomorrow for PES, so be on the lookout!

A few reminders as we prepare for Wednesday:

đźš— Remember the Horseshoe traffic flow for MDW and PJHS car pickup, and please continue to follow designated lanes and staff directions.

🏷️ MDW families: Please remember to have your car pickup tag clearly displayed in your vehicle. Having your tag visible and ready will help our staff identify students more quickly and keep the pickup line moving.

đź’¬ Talk with your student and their teacher ahead of Wednesday about dismissal plans. We understand plans can change, but having that conversation ahead of time helps students and staff know what to expect and makes dismissal smoother for everyone.

⏰ Please take care of student checkouts before 1:15 PM. As dismissal approaches, office staff will be focused on coordinating students, transportation, and dismissal, so checkouts, phone calls, and other office communication will be limited after 1:15 PM.

đź“š Students remaining on campus will continue to be engaged in educational activities until regular dismissal, and buses will run at their normal times.

Community Safety Update

Pocahontas Families and Community,

This evening, we were made aware of a social media post associated with a recent TikTok trend that has reached our community. An image is circulating that appears to show the Cat in the Hat character sitting on a trash can outside Pocahontas High School after dark. The image appears to have been digitally or AI-generated and is being shared through social media.

I want to make sure our families have accurate information and understand how we are responding.

The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We are aware of the post and are working with local law enforcement to ensure the situation is appropriately addressed. As an additional precaution, there will be an increased presence on our campus tomorrow.

At this time, I encourage students and families not to contribute to the spread of rumors or speculation surrounding social media posts such as this. If students or families become aware of information that may represent a legitimate safety concern, please share it directly with a school administrator or law enforcement rather than circulating it on social media.

We appreciate the cooperation of our families, students, staff, and local law enforcement as we work together to keep our schools safe and focused on what matters most—providing our students a safe environment in which they can learn.

Families are encouraged to sign up for the Pocahontas School Food Pantry Program.

Family pantry food bags are available for pickup each Thursday at the MDW crosswalk from 2:00–3:00 p.m. and again from 3:30–4:15 p.m. after buses leave campus.

Families who participated in the summer pantry program are automatically enrolled and do not need to sign up again.

If you did not participate this summer and would like to receive a weekly food bag, you may sign up at any time by contacting Shannon Barr at 870-892-4573 ext. 3204 or 870-834-4586.

📢 TODAY IS EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAY!

Early Release begins at 1:45 PM today, August 26. As we prepare for dismissal, please take a moment to review a few important reminders — especially our NEW horseshoe traffic flow for MDW and PJHS.

NEW HORSESHOE TRAFFIC FLOW
MDW car pickup should use the TWO OUTER LANES, marked in RED on the traffic graphic.
PJHS car pickup should use the TWO INNER LANES, marked in BLUE.

Picking up students from BOTH MDW & PJHS? Please use the MDW outer lanes. This is the safest option for our younger Redskins.

MDW FAMILIES: HAVE YOUR CAR TAG READY!
Please make sure your MDW car tag is clearly displayed and visible as you enter the pickup area. Having tags ready will help staff identify students quickly and keep the line moving.

HORSESHOE REMINDERS
Please remain in your vehicle, pull all the way forward, and follow the directions of staff members who will be outside assisting with traffic and student pickup. Your cooperation will help us keep vehicles moving safely and efficiently.

PLAN AHEAD BEFORE 1:15 PM
As dismissal approaches, our building staff will be focused on coordinating students, transportation, and dismissal procedures. Student checkouts and phone communication will be limited after 1:15 PM, so please take care of any necessary arrangements or changes before 1:15 PM whenever possible.

BUSES WILL RUN AT THEIR NORMAL TIMES
Buses will NOT run at 1:45 PM. Students who remain on campus will continue to be supervised and actively engaged in educational and academic activities until regular dismissal. This time provides meaningful opportunities for continued learning, academic support, and student engagement.

Today will be our first day using the new horseshoe traffic flow, so we appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we work through the process together.

These applications are essential to help our district maintain eligibility for Provision 2 in the future and continue supporting programs that benefit our students and schools.

IMPORTANT: Early Release Wednesday Horseshoe Traffic Information

MDW CAR PICKUP
Families picking up MDW students should use the TWO OUTER LANES of the horseshoe, marked in RED on the attached graphic.

PJHS CAR PICKUP
Families picking up PJHS students should use the TWO INNER LANES of the horseshoe, marked in BLUE on the attached graphic.

HAVE STUDENTS AT BOTH MDW & PJHS?
Please use the MDW outer lanes marked in RED. This allows us to keep our younger Redskins with the MDW pickup process and provides the safest option for dismissal.

PLEASE STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE
Parents and guardians should remain in their vehicles throughout the pickup process. Our staff will help get students safely to the appropriate vehicles.

PULL ALL THE WAY FORWARD
When entering your pickup lane, please continue to pull as far forward as space allows. Leaving gaps in the horseshoe can quickly cause traffic to back up and prevent other families from entering the pickup area.

FOLLOW STAFF DIRECTION
We will have staff members outside helping direct vehicles and keep traffic moving. Please kindly follow their directions. This will help us safely load multiple students at once and give all families the opportunity to pick up their students as quickly and efficiently as possible.

⚠️ These instructions apply to the horseshoe during Early Release Wednesday dismissal only.

We know this is still a new process, and we appreciate everyone's patience, flexibility, and cooperation as we continue working out the details. A little teamwork from all of us will go a long way toward making dismissal safer, faster, and smoother for everyone!
