🇺🇸 LABOR DAY | NO SCHOOL MONDAY

Pocahontas School District will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

Students will return to school on Tuesday, September 8.

⚠️ IMPORTANT REMINDER: Because this is a shortened school week, there will be NO Early Release Wednesday next week.

Wednesday, September 9, will follow a NORMAL school day schedule with regular dismissal times. Buses will also run on their normal schedule.

📣 EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAY | PES

Today is Early Release Wednesday! PES families, please take a moment to review today’s car pickup process.

⏰ Dismissal will begin at 1:35 PM.

🚗 Car pickup will utilize FIVE lanes, available on a first come, first served basis.

Once dismissal begins, cars will be released one FULL lane at a time, in order:

Lane 1 → Lane 2 → Lane 3 → Lane 4 → Lane 5

There will be no staggering between lanes. The entire first lane will go before Lane 2 begins, followed by Lane 3, Lane 4, and Lane 5. Please remain in your vehicle and wait for staff direction before moving.

💬 Please communicate your student’s expected dismissal plan with your student and their teacher. We understand plans can change, but having a plan ahead of time helps our students and staff prepare.

⏰ Remember, checkouts, phone calls, and other office communication will be limited after 1:15 PM as staff prepare for dismissal.

📚 Students remaining on campus will continue to be engaged in educational activities until regular dismissal, and buses will run at their normal times.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as everyone gets familiar with the process. Our goal is to make Early Release Wednesday safe, organized, and efficient for our PES families!

📣 EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAY UPDATE | PES

PES families, we have an important update for Early Release Wednesday as we continue working to make dismissal and car pickup as smooth and efficient as possible.

⏰ Dismissal will begin at 1:35 PM TOMORROW.

PES car pickup will utilize FIVE car lanes. Lanes will be available on a first come, first served basis, so families may pull into the next available lane as they arrive.

There will be no staggering between the five lanes. Once dismissal begins, cars will be released one full lane at a time, in order:

Lane 1 → Lane 2 → Lane 3 → Lane 4 → Lane 5

The entire first lane will move through pickup before Lane 2 begins, followed by Lane 3, Lane 4, and then Lane 5. Please remain in your vehicle and wait for staff direction before moving forward.

This process is designed to create a more organized and predictable traffic flow while helping us move students safely and efficiently.

As we continue adjusting the Early Release Wednesday process, we appreciate your patience and cooperation. Please follow staff directions and allow us a little time as everyone gets familiar with the new flow!

📣 EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAY | SEPTEMBER 2

Early Release Wednesday is happening again this Wednesday, September 2!
As we continue working to make the process smoother and more efficient for our families, a few small changes are being made to improve the car pickup experience. We’ll share more information about those updates tomorrow for PES, so be on the lookout!

A few reminders as we prepare for Wednesday:

🚗 Remember the Horseshoe traffic flow for MDW and PJHS car pickup, and please continue to follow designated lanes and staff directions.

🏷️ MDW families: Please remember to have your car pickup tag clearly displayed in your vehicle. Having your tag visible and ready will help our staff identify students more quickly and keep the pickup line moving.

💬 Talk with your student and their teacher ahead of Wednesday about dismissal plans. We understand plans can change, but having that conversation ahead of time helps students and staff know what to expect and makes dismissal smoother for everyone.

⏰ Please take care of student checkouts before 1:15 PM. As dismissal approaches, office staff will be focused on coordinating students, transportation, and dismissal, so checkouts, phone calls, and other office communication will be limited after 1:15 PM.

📚 Students remaining on campus will continue to be engaged in educational activities until regular dismissal, and buses will run at their normal times.

There’s something new on the playground at Pocahontas Elementary!

New turf was recently installed, and our students wasted no time putting it to good use! They had the chance to get outside, play, and enjoy the new space — and it was definitely a hit.

We love seeing improvements like this come to life for our students. It’s a great addition to the PES playground and another way we’re continuing to improve the spaces our students enjoy each day!

Families are encouraged to sign up for the Pocahontas School Food Pantry Program.

Family pantry food bags are available for pickup each Thursday at the MDW crosswalk from 2:00–3:00 p.m. and again from 3:30–4:15 p.m. after buses leave campus.

Families who participated in the summer pantry program are automatically enrolled and do not need to sign up again.

If you did not participate this summer and would like to receive a weekly food bag, you may sign up at any time by contacting Shannon Barr at 870-892-4573 ext. 3204 or 870-834-4586.
