It is well noted that questions grow out of our basic encounters with the world and questions are at the core of science and engineering: What is the nature of? Asking questions and evaluating evidence are central to the ways in which scientists and engineers engage in their work. As they raise and seek answers to questions, scientists and engineers wrestle with contradictions, puzzle through par

adoxes, search for connections and explanations, and engage in the multitude of ways that the natural and human-made world presents itself. These are also the ways in which we believe that students best learn about science and engineering. Furthermore, we believe that children are born investigators, understanding develops over time, students’ interests must connect to their experiences, and science and engineering require both knowledge and practice. Our mission based on these beliefs, is to promote scientific literacy among all students. We want our students to develop disciplinary core ideas using overarching themes and scientific and engineering practices. Our goals are to encourage students to:
• Engage in the ways that scientists and engineers do
• Find meaning in their investigations to explain phenomena
• Integrate new experiences with prior understanding
• Evaluate problems and rethink ideas

With the support of our district and state and federal governments, we give our students the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in these areas. We expect our students to learn the core ideas and practices of science and engineering. We expect students to learn them, just as they are expected to learn how to read and write. This is accomplished through a continuum of learning that begins in the early school years and continues into their high school years.

🎓🧬 Celebrating the Plymouth Biomedical Class of 2026! 🧬🎓

Recently, we had the privilege of honoring the outstanding seniors from both Plymouth North High School and Plymouth South High School who successfully completed the Project Lead The Way Biomedical Science program.

Surrounded by family, friends, teachers, and administrators, these students were recognized for their hard work, perseverance, and dedication throughout this rigorous and rewarding course of study. Along the way, they built lasting memories, from unforgettable dissections and engineering design challenges to creative classroom traditions and celebrations that made their journey uniquely their own.

Each graduate received a certificate of achievement and a silver cord to wear at graduation.

The PLTW Biomedical Science pathway equips students with the knowledge and skills to investigate diseases, explore human body systems, and tackle real-world health challenges through hands-on learning. Most importantly, it inspires the next generation of doctors, nurses, researchers, engineers, and healthcare innovators.

We are incredibly proud of these talented students and excited to see where their curiosity, compassion, and determination will take them next.

Congratulations to the Biomedical Science Class of 2026! Your future is bright, and we cannot wait to see the difference you will make in the world. 🌟🔬🩶

As Teacher Appreciation Week comes to a close, we want to end by recognizing something important: The extraordinary programs we highlighted this week, the Planetarium, Biomedical Science, elementary OpenSciEd classrooms, and the Plymouth-Milan Exchange Program, exist because extraordinary teachers make them possible.

But excellence in Science and Technology/Engineering in Plymouth is not limited to a few special programs.

It happens every single day in classrooms across our district. It happens when teachers encourage students to ask one more question. When they turn curiosity into discovery. When they help students wonder why leaves change color, how bridges stay standing, what exists beyond our planet, or how medicine can change lives.

It happens in elementary classrooms filled with student questions and hands-on investigations. In middle school classes where students learn to think critically and solve problems together. In high school classrooms where students design, test, build, research, and imagine futures they may never have considered before.

Our Science and Technology/Engineering teachers do so much more than teach content. They inspire curiosity, nurture creativity, encourage persistence, and help students make sense of the world around them.

Thank you for the energy, care, expertise, patience, creativity, and passion you bring to students each day. You make Plymouth stronger, more curious, and more inspired because of the work you do.

Some educational experiences stay with students for a lifetime.

The Plymouth-Milan Student Exchange Program is one of those experiences and it exists because of an incredible group of educators who give their time, energy, care, and hearts to making it possible.

This Teacher Appreciation Week, we proudly recognize the teachers who serve as chaperones and leaders for our partnership with Collegio San Carlo in Milan.

Mrs. Durkee, Mrs. Stanish, Mrs. Whitney, and Dr. Vendetti dedicate countless hours to supporting students and families through every part of the exchange experience. They host visiting Italian teachers, organize and chaperone events when students visit Plymouth, travel internationally with students, and provide around-the-clock care and supervision during the Italy trip.

This work goes far beyond a school day or even a school year.

These educators help students build confidence, independence, global awareness, and friendships that cross oceans and cultures. They create experiences that students remember forever.

We also recognize and thank Mrs. Bernal and Mrs. Markarian, whose contributions as past chaperones helped build and strengthen this incredible program over the years.

The Plymouth-Milan Exchange Program is outstanding because of the people behind it, the educators who make every detail matter and every student feel supported along the journey.

Thank you for representing Plymouth with such care, commitment, and generosity.

Some programs become exceptional because of the opportunities they offer. Others become exceptional because of the educators who build them, protect them, and continually push them forward.

This Teacher Appreciation Week, we proudly recognize the extraordinary teachers behind Plymouth Public Schools Biomedical Program, a program that has transformed student learning for 14 years and has earned recognition across Massachusetts and on the national stage for excellence.

Mrs. Denn, Dr. Meade, Mrs. Rozak, and Mrs. Raymond were the original visionaries who laid the foundation for this innovative pathway, creating experiences that challenged students to think critically, solve authentic problems, and explore futures in medicine, research, and health science.

Over the years, that strong foundation has continued to grow with the addition of Ms. Abbott and Mr. Kowalski, whose work has helped carry the program forward for a new generation of students.

This year also marks an important moment of transition. We honor Mrs. Rozak, whose impact continues to be felt even after retirement, and we celebrate Mrs. Raymond as she prepares for her well-earned retirement, thanking her for years of dedication, leadership, and commitment to students.

Their collective work has built something truly remarkable.

Most recently, both Plymouth North High School and Plymouth South High School were named 2025–2026 PLTW - Project Lead The Way Distinguished High Schools, an honor that reflects the strength of the Biomedical Program at both campuses and the excellence of the educators who lead it.

Because of these teachers, students have not only learned science…they have learned to investigate, innovate, persevere, and envision themselves in careers that change lives.

Thank you for 14 years of excellence, leadership, and inspiration.
