We are excited to introduce Julie Simons, our summer intern with Washington County Cooperative Extension!

Julie has just finished her first year at NC State University studying Agricultural Science with minors in Crop Science and Horticulture. This summer, she is eager to broaden her experience with Extension and support the Washington County community by assisting with programs related to 4-H Youth Development 🍀, Agriculture & Natural Resources 🌾, and Family & Consumer Sciences 🥘🍳.

This year’s theme for the 69th Annual Washington County 4-H Livestock Show, held at The Big Red Barn, honored the 250th anniversary of our great nation. 🇺🇸

It was only fitting that our Sew 4-H Club Leader, Jill Manring, representing the America 250 project, created this beautiful barn quilt to commemorate the occasion.

Barn quilts have long served as symbols of community, heritage, and agriculture — values that continue to reflect the heart of 4-H and Washington County.

Washington County, we hope you love it just as much as we do and that it stands as a beacon of 4-H’s continued service, leadership, and dedication to our community for generations to come. 💚🍀

The 69th Annual Washington County 4-H Livestock Show and Sale was a great success! Participants ranging from ages 5–18 showcased heifers, goats, lambs, and hogs while demonstrating the hard work, responsibility, and dedication that goes into caring for livestock animals year-round.

Youth involved in our 4-H livestock programs learn valuable life skills including animal science, record keeping, financial management, communication, leadership, and sportsmanship gaining confidence through hands-on experiences while feeding and supporting our communities.

We are incredibly proud of all of our participants for representing Washington County 4-H so well!

Congratulations to our 4-H’ers 🎉 as we celebrate everyone involved!

A special thank you goes out to our volunteers, families, buyers, sponsors, and community supporters who continue to invest in the future of our youth and agriculture programs. 💚🍀
