Hello,

My name is Nora Myrick, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new Foster Care Manager for the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Social Services Program. I am an enrolled Colville Tribal member with Coeur d’Alene descendancy, and I was raised on the Coeur d’Alene Reservation. I graduated from Lakeside High School in 2010 and am currently working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology at Washington State University, where I will graduate in the Spring of 2026.

Family and community are at the heart of everything I do. I am a proud mother of three biological children and three bonus children, and our home is also filled with love from our two dogs. Over the past five years, I have worked in several roles including case management, resource navigation, and housing coordination. My experience includes working with tribal programs, DCYF, and behavioral health services. These experiences have strengthened my dedication to helping families feel supported, valued, and understood.

As the Foster Care Manager, my goal is to create a safe and supportive environment for both foster families and the children in their care. I believe that every family has unique strengths, and I hope to help build on those strengths by connecting families with the resources and encouragement they need to succeed. My approach centers on stability, cultural connection, and emotional well-being, recognizing that growth and healing come from being seen and supported as a whole.

In this position, I will work closely with foster parents, biological families, and community partners to ensure that each child receives consistent and loving care while maintaining their cultural and family ties. I hope to be someone you can rely on for guidance, advocacy, and support as we work together to provide safe and nurturing homes for our children.

As I settle into this new role, I appreciate your patience and understanding while I continue learning and finding my rhythm. I am very excited to get to know each of you and to work together to strengthen our families and community.

Warm regards,
Nora Myrick

The second step in our series to protect your children from sexual abuse is to understand signs that an adult may be at risk to sexually abuse children. Most may appear friendly and likeable. Many work diligently over time to earn the trust of children, parents, and other adults. They often build up to the abuse slowly, through “grooming” behaviors.

Most children and teens do not fully understand what is happening, and when they do, many are led by their abusers to believe they are to blame for what has happened, making it difficult for children to tell.

Different types of abusers can present differently, but here are some concerning behaviors that can indicate poor personal boundaries. If you see these, it doesn’t mean that the person is abusive. It should, however, cause you to observe their behaviors around children or teens more closely. If something doesn’t seem right, trust your instincts. Talk with your child or other parents about any concerns you or they have, and, if warranted, report your concerns.

Back-to-school means more than supplies and schedules. It’s also a time when important conversations need to happen. Our upcoming webinars will give you practical ways to talk with your kids about alcohol and cannabis, including the risks of underage drinking, binge drinking, and blackouts. You’ll also learn how to recognize the early signs of anxiety, depression, and self-harm, and how to respond with empathy so your child feels supported. Start the year with tools that make a real difference. Register now: https://loom.ly/lvBuVdM
