*For Immediate Press Release *

The men and women of the Peekskill PBA are thankful for the fair and objective review by the DA’s Office of the recent arrest and justified use of force case at the Riverfront Green Park. We implore anyone who is concerned with this case to review all of the body worn camera footage with the proper perspective of the responding police officers who have to make life changing decisions without the luxury of hindsight.

As we saw in this case, these split-second decisions are often made dealing with people who are high on dangerous narcotics like P*P or ‘crack’ co***ne. For a reminder of how dangerous this can be, just look at the recent conviction of the “unarmed” Haseem Jenkins who murdered a social worker with his bare hands right here in Peekskill.

During the recent City Council meeting, we heard the unfortunate news on the decision to suspend both PO Regg and PO Cintron without pay. To say that we are disappointed with this decision would be an understatement. The District Attorney has determined that the use of force by Police Officers Regg and Cintron was justified under law. Additionally, the officers clearly followed the Peekskill PD’s use of force policy. Simply put, there is one person at fault for this incident and that is Damar Fields. To punish the police officers who were forced to deal with the dangerous actions of a man exposing himself in public, likely high on P*P, who was threatening to kill the police is a travesty.

The reality of the danger our Officers face on every call cannot be overlooked. The men and women of the Peekskill Police Department thank the community for their support and understanding.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Beech Grove, Indiana Police Officer Brian Elliott, who was killed in the line of duty, yesterday, February 16, 2026.
Officer Elliott, a 33-year-old two-year veteran of the Beech Grove Police Department and a Beech Grove High School graduate, made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to a domestic disturbance call. He was shot by the suspect and succumbed to his injuries despite lifesaving efforts at Eskenazi Hospital. Another officer was also wounded but is reported to be in stable condition.
This is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face every day to protect our communities. Officer Elliott protected and served his hometown. He leaves behind his wife, Erin, family, friends, and fellow officers.

Rest in peace, Officer Brian Elliott
End of Watch: February 16, 2026. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. 💙
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Beech Grove Police Department

Rest in peace to two dedicated law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice this week.
On January 7, 2026, communities mourn two heartbreaking losses:
• Uxbridge (MA) Police Officer Stephen LaPorta, a 43-year-old husband and father, was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer while assisting at a crash scene on Route 146. He died at the scene doing what he swore to do, protect and serve.
• Metropolitan Police Department (DC) Officer Terry Bennett, a 32-year-old husband, father, and 8-year veteran, succumbed on January 7 to injuries sustained on December 23 when he was struck by a vehicle while helping a stranded motorist on I-695. A D.C. native and mentor to youth, he continued saving lives even in passing as an organ donor.
These back-to-back tragedies are a stark reminder of the dangers first responders face on our roadways every single day.

Drivers: When you approach emergency lights—police, fire, tow trucks, or ambulances—please slow down and move over if safe to do so. It’s the law in nearly every state, and it saves lives.
Our heroes deserve to go home to their families. Let’s honor Officers LaPorta and Bennett by driving responsibly. 💙🖤

As we close out 2025, the PBA of Westchester County, Inc. pauses to honor the brave law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice this year.
According to preliminary data from reliable sources like the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) and the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP), line-of-duty deaths nationwide have significantly decreased in 2025 compared to recent years. A trend that reflects improved safety measures, training, and community support, even as the risks remain ever-present.

Every single name represents a hero who ran toward danger so the rest of us could stay safe. We remember them, support their families, and commit to making the job safer for those who continue to serve.

Thank you to all who continue to wear the shield. Stay safe out there. 🖤💙🖤
