Deputy Sheriffs Association of Alameda County

Deputy Sheriffs Association of Alameda County The DSA represents its members with Alameda County in order to enhance wages, benefits and working c

The Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of Alameda County was founded in 1940 as a way to ensure the deputies received the tools they needed to better serve and protect the public. It has since evolved to encompass community outreach programs. The goal of the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of Alameda County is to partner with the communities and provide quality police service through community interaction,

emphasizing the highest degree of cooperation, professionalism and ethical behavior, and to create an atmosphere of safety and security. Our community policing approach helps neighborhoods keep safe by working with our deputies daily. The Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of Alameda County is active in our communities and many of our members volunteer in Alameda County and the communities where they live. We have proudly served the communities of Alameda County for the last 75 years as an association and 162 years as a Sheriff’s Office. We are committed to not only the safety of our citizens and businesses but to providing charitable contributions to those in our communities who need our help the most. Currently we are involved with the Alameda County’s Deputy Sheriffs’ Activities League (DSAL), Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Explorers, K9 Association of Alameda County, and Special Olympics. For more information about the work we do in our communities please visit our Charities page.

82 years ago today, more than 156,000 Allied troops crossed the English Channel and stormed five beaches along the coast of Normandy, France. By the end of June 6, 1944, over 4,400 of them had given their lives. The largest amphibious invasion in human history changed the trajectory of World War II and, with it, the world.

Many members of this association are veterans. Many have parents and grandparents who served. The legacy of the men who landed at Normandy lives in the people who wear a uniform today, regardless of which one it is.

Today, this association honors them. Their courage was the cost of the freedoms we still defend every shift.

Share this post in honor of the men who gave everything on June 6, 1944.

Today is Memorial Day. Not a long weekend. Not a sale. A day set aside to remember the men and women who gave everything.

The roots of this holiday go back to May 1868, when General John A. Logan issued a proclamation designating May 30 as a day to decorate the graves of those who died in the Civil War. What began as flowers placed on graves eventually grew into a national observance honoring every American service member lost in every conflict this country has ever fought. More than 1.3 million Americans have died in military service throughout the nation's history.

Our members are working today, as they do on every holiday, keeping this community safe while families gather to remember. We do not take that lightly on any day, but especially not this one.

Peace Officer Memorial Day is observed today across the country. Flags fly at half-staff, and they should.

President Kennedy signed the law establishing this observance in 1962. Since then, more than 22,000 names have been added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C., representing every line of duty death in American history. Each name belongs to someone who left behind a family that had to keep going without them.

The risk these professionals accept is real. The support we provide their families needs to be real too.

Today is Children of Fallen Patriots Day, and it is one of the more sobering dates on the calendar.

May 13 was chosen for this observance because it marks the day Arlington National Cemetery was established in 1864. That connection is intentional. The Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation estimates that approximately 25,000 children have lost a parent in the line of military duty over the last 35 years. Without support, only 20 percent of those children complete college. With the foundation's assistance, that rate rises to 91 percent.

These are children who carried a loss most people their age could not begin to understand. Many members of this association are veterans. We do not take this day lightly.

This is National Police Week, and we want to make sure it means more than a hashtag.

National Police Week 2026 runs from May 11 through May 17, featuring memorial ceremonies, survivor-focused events, honor guard tributes, and community gatherings across Washington D.C

The professionals our association represents are the people who answer the call when you cannot. They miss birthdays, holidays, and milestones because the job does not stop for any of it. The ones we are honoring this week did not get to come home, and the families they left behind carry that every single day.

This week is for them. It is also for every member out on shift right now who continues their work.

If you have a first responder in your life, tell them this week you see what they do.

Share this post and help us make sure National Police Week reaches every community that needs to hear it.

Happy Mother's Day to every mother in our community and in our ranks.

The holiday has been with us longer than most people realize. In 1908, Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia, and the idea spread so quickly that by 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation making it a national holiday. Today, Mother's Day is one of the highest-grossing retail holidays in the United States, generating over 35 billion dollars in spending annually according to the National Retail Federation.

The mothers in our ranks show up for this community every shift. The mothers at home supporting our members carry just as much. Both deserve more than one day of recognition. But today, we make sure they get it.

Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day, and it is one that deserves a lot more than a social media post.

Military spouses hold things together in ways that rarely get acknowledged. President Ronald Reagan established this observance in 1984 through Proclamation 5184, making it an official national recognition of the sacrifices made by the spouses of military personnel. At the time of signing, Reagan called military spouses "the unsung heroes of the armed forces."

Several members of this association serve in the reserve components, and the spouses supporting them here at home are part of what makes that dual service possible. They do not wear a uniform, but they serve just the same.

Cinco de Mayo is observed today, and our members are on duty making sure the community can celebrate safely.

The holiday commemorates the Mexican army's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. What most people do not know is that the French at the time were considered one of the most powerful military forces in the world. The victory was a major upset that changed the course of the conflict. Today it is one of the most widely celebrated cultural observances in the United States.

We are proud to serve a community as diverse and vibrant as this one.

Drop a comment below and tell us how you are celebrating today.

On April 23, 1908, Congress created the Medical Reserve Corps, a group of 160 military doctors who could be called to active duty in times of emergency. That small, practical decision became the foundation of what is now the United States Army Reserve.

118 years later, the Reserve has answered the call in every major American conflict from World War I through the present day. Today it stands at approximately 172,000 soldiers, each one a civilian who chose to remain available to their country on top of everything else life requires of them. That kind of commitment does not get enough recognition.

Members of this association who serve in the Reserve carry that history with them every shift. We are proud to stand alongside them.

Earth Day is here, and we think it deserves more than a post about recycling.

When the first Earth Day was observed in 1970, it represented something bigger than a single date on the calendar. It was a public declaration that the land, the water, and the air belong to everyone, and that everyone shares responsibility for protecting them. That idea is just as relevant today as it was 56 years ago.

The professionals in this association enforce the regulations that back that idea up. Illegal dumping, wildlife protection, public land ordinances. It is not the most visible part of the job, but it matters every time someone gets to enjoy a clean park or a healthy waterway because of it.

Do something good for the outdoors today. It gives back more than most people realize.
