🎥 Monday Minute with the Judge 🎥

This week, I spoke with Atascosa County Maintenance Supervisor Trey Porter about the important work he and his team do each and every day behind the scenes to help keep our county running smoothly.

Trey shared that no two days in maintenance are ever the same. Alongside his team of six employees, they help maintain 22 buildings and properties across Atascosa County — each with different needs, systems, and challenges. From older facilities with aging infrastructure to newer buildings with updated technology, Trey and his team have to know how to work across multiple systems and solve a wide variety of issues daily.

Maintenance is truly a “jack of all trades” position, requiring adaptability, problem-solving, and a willingness to tackle whatever comes their way.
We are incredibly grateful for Trey and his entire team for all they do to help keep our county facilities operating and serving the public each day. Their hard work often happens behind the scenes, but it does not go unnoticed. Thank you for all you do for Atascosa County! 👏

With heavy rainfall possible across our region this weekend, we encourage all Atascosa County residents to stay weather aware and use caution on the roads. Never drive through flooded areas. We will continue sharing updates as they become available.

A Flood Watch is in effect for portions of the Hill Country, I-35 Corridor, and Coastal Plains Friday evening through Monday evening. Life-threatening possible somewhere within the Flood Watch area. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches with isolated 6 inches are forecast for the watch period. Stay weather aware! Turn around, don't drown!

🎥 Monday Minute with the Judge 🎥

This week, I am excited to officially introduce Atascosa County’s new Chief of Staff, Cheyenne Vyvlecka!

Cheyenne previously spent the last four years serving our community through Safer Path Family Violence Shelter, where she helped lead awareness campaigns, events, outreach efforts, and social media initiatives focused on supporting and educating our community.

This spring, Cheyenne joined our very first Public Service Academy, where for seven weeks she had the opportunity to hear directly from county officials, learn about each department, and see firsthand how county government impacts the people of Atascosa County every day. During the academy, she learned the Chief of Staff position was available and, after reflecting on her skill set, experience, and desire to serve at the county level, decided to apply — and was ultimately selected for the role.
We are incredibly excited to have her aboard. As a county, it is important that our young people know they have a seat at the table and that there is a place for them in public service and leadership. We believe Cheyenne’s story reflects exactly that.

We can’t wait for her to dig in and get to work serving Atascosa County alongside our team. Please help us welcome her aboard! 👏

This week we concluded the Atascosa County Public Service Academy. Over the last 6 weeks, community leaders from across Atascosa County came together to learn more about county government, hear directly from local leaders, better understand partnerships and explore where they may see themselves serving in our community.

We wrapped up the program with participant presentations where they shared what stood out to them, identified opportunities and gaps they see in our community and reflected on how they hope to make an impact through public service and leadership.

It was a wonderful program and an incredible group of participants. Thank you to everyone who helped make this first academy such a success!!
