CCCOE provides direct services to our county's most vulnerable students, including young people who are incarcerated, homeless, or in foster care. Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE) is the 9th largest public school student population in California. CCCOE has a long history of providing direct services to some of our county’s most vulnerable students, including adults and young people

who are incarcerated, homeless, or in foster care, as well as students who have severe physical or emotional challenges. CCCOE serves 285 schools, 18 school districts, and over 176k students. CCCOE serves as an advocate for education and youth in our county, helps to increase public awareness of educational issues, and leads the way with bold countywide initiatives. CCCOE prepares Contra Costa County students to LEARN, LEAD, and ACHIEVE!

Professional Development Opportunity
Math Without Mystery: Turning “I Don’t Get It” into “Ohhh, I see!”

Description: This summer institute will strengthen your ability to support students who are struggling to understand grade level content. With an emphasis on learning acceleration strategies, participants will build their conceptual understanding of big ideas of multiplication division, fractions and solving equations that are needed at each grade level for students to be successful in Algebra 1.

Date & Time: July 27-28, 9am-3pm
Target Audience: 4th-9th grade math teachers and paraprofessionals working in math classrooms
Cost: Free. Participants have the option of receiving 1 graduate credit and all Contra Costa County Educators will receive $500 stipend for attending both days.

The Contra Costa County Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools Lynn Mackey proudly honored Aiden Meng, a seventh grader at Orinda Intermediate School, for his outstanding achievements in spelling competition this year.

Aiden placed second in the 2026 California State Junior High Spelling Bee, competing among the top students from across the state. He then advanced to the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., where he earned a tie for 6th place, representing Contra Costa County on a national stage.

The Board expressed their congratulations to Aiden and his family on this remarkable honor and thanked him for representing Contra Costa County with excellence in the national competition.

Registration is now open for Summer Python Coding at Diablo Valley College in San Ramon. This six-week, in-person course gives students the opportunity to build real apps through hands-on, project-based learning, regardless of prior experience.

Participants will learn from experienced software developers, earn college credit, and work toward a DVC Certificate in Data Analytics in a supportive, small-class environment. The course is designed for beginner to intermediate learners and focuses on practical application of coding skills.

Celebrating meaningful milestones at CCCOE’s Turner School program.

Families were invited to join students and staff for a special graduation gathering, marking the end of the school year and recognizing each student’s growth and accomplishments. Teachers honored students individually, sharing the goals they achieved and why those milestones matter for their future success.

The celebration included photo opportunities, cake, and refreshments, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for students and their families to enjoy together.

Thank you to the parents, caregivers, teachers, and staff who made this day so special. It was a great school year, and we are proud of all that these students have accomplished.

CCCOE’s Krey Elementary program closed out the 2025–2026 school year with a joyful end-of-year celebration and promotion ceremony in Ms. Santos’ classroom.

Students, families, and staff came together to recognize a year of hard work and growth, with the classroom transformed for a fun jungle safari-themed celebration. Ms. Santos honored each student with a personalized certificate and shared highlights of their accomplishments, creating a special moment for every family in attendance.

A special congratulations to Brooklynn, who is moving up to middle school.
