🚨 Winter Weather Advisory – Pet Safety Reminder 🚨

With dangerously cold temperatures and winter weather impacting our area, it is NOT safe for animals to be outside right now. Frostbite and hypothermia can set in within minutes, even for healthy pets.

🐾 Please remember:
•Bring pets indoors. No animal should be left outside in these conditions.
•Frostbite happens fast—ears, tails, noses, and paws are especially vulnerable.
•Watch ice melt products. Many are toxic to pets if licked or absorbed through paws.
•If your pet must go outside for a quick potty break, limit time outdoors and dry their paws immediately when they come back inside.

🚫 Now is NOT the time to abandon animals—anywhere.
This includes leaving animals outside, tied up, or dumped at our shelter doors.

🤝 If you are struggling or need to surrender an animal, please ask for help. We are here to work with you and find safe options.

❤️ Stay safe and stay warm.
We are closely monitoring weather conditions and will share updates regarding shelter and clinic hours as more information becomes available.

Thank you for looking out for your pets and for each other.

Tips to avoid an ambulance ride:
1. Ice related falls are one of the leading causes of winter EMS calls. Keep walkways salted and shoveled to protect yourself and others. Safest practice don't go out.
2. Auto accidents, do not drive unless it's absolutely necessary. If you do drive speed kills,go slow! Safest practice don't go out.
3. Frostbite, hypothermia and other cold injuries. Limit your time outside. Wear layers, cover ears, neck and extremities. In 0 degree or below weather frostbite can set in within 30 minutes on exposed skin. Safest practice don't go out.
Whatever you have to do can wait, Don't go out! Stay home! Be safe!

Winter Weather Alert ❄️

A major winter storm is forecast for this weekend, with very cold temperatures and significant snowfall expected.
Friday, January 23: Temperatures will drop sharply
Saturday, January 24: Snow likely, with totals of 6–7 inches possible
Sunday, January 25: Additional snow may continue, adding 4–5 more inches

Safety First:
If you can, please plan to stay home. If travel is necessary:
Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination
Dress warmly (coats, boots, and layers are a must)
Keep your phone fully charged
Make sure your gas tank is full—just in case

A Few Helpful Reminders:
Check on neighbors who may need assistance
Disconnect outdoor hoses to prevent freezing
Bring pets indoors or ensure they have a warm, safe shelter (they prefer it inside anyway!)
If possible, please park vehicles off the street to help with snow removal

City Operations:
City crews will begin treating streets on Thursday and Friday and will continue plowing and treating roads throughout the storm. Crews are prepared—please be patient and give snowplows plenty of room to work safely.

Thank you for helping keep our community safe and warm this weekend! Stay warm!

Well folks, we have some potential severe weather moving into our area starting today in to the weekend. With these storms, significant rainfall is a major concern. With heavy rainfall brings flash flooding potential that can happen quickly without notice. Please remember the saying "Turn around, don't drown!" If you encounter walkways or roadways that are covered in water. It only takes 6 inches of moving water to sweep an adult off of their feet, 12 inches to carry away a small car, and 18 to 24 inches to carry away SUVs and trucks. Please be weather aware and remember, turn around, don't drown!
