Town of Platteville

Town of Platteville Platteville was founded on May 27, 1871, and was incorporated on January 1, 1887. The town was named for its location on the Platte River.

From 1968 until 1984, Platteville was home to one of the earliest ionospheric heating facilities capable of radiating about 100 MW ERP. Early experiments included HF heater induced air-glow, heater-induced spread F, wide band heater-induced absorption, and heater-created field-aligned ionization, refer to HAARP. Platteville has a public library, United States Post Office, four parks, five churches

, an elementary school and a middle school. Platteville is also home to Fort Vasquez, an 1830s fur trading post, and the Pioneer Museum. As of the census of 2010, there were 2,485 people, 951 households, and 935 families residing in Platteville. The population density was 1,606.5 people per square mile (618.3/km²). There were 819 housing units at an average density of 555.1 per square mile (213.7/km²). The racial makeup of Platteville was 73.84% White, 0.55% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 22.24% from other races, and 2.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 35.19% of the population. There were 786 households out of which 45.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.6% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.4% were non-families. 18.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.02 and the average family size was 3.50. The Platteville population was spread out with 32.8% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 32.3% from 25 to 44, 18.7% from 45 to 64, and 6.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 103.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.5 males. The median income for a household in Platteville was $43,472, and the median income for a family was $47,574. Males had a median income of $34,048 versus $25,430 for females. The per capita income for Platteville was $15,802. About 6.9% of families and 8.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.6% of those under age 18 and 5.5% of those age 65 or over.

Starting Wednesday, 12/1/2021 through the following Wednesday, 12/8/2021, Reynolds Ave will be closed to traffic (except for local residents working with Mountain Constructors for access) and any events at the Community Center, Senior Center and Fitness Room will be closed as well. If additional time is needed to complete the paving, then Mountain Constructors and the Town will work together and inform the public if the road needs to remain closed on December 9 or 10.

The Platteville Police Department has been receiving a number of calls, emails, and other contacts inquiring about the employment status of Officer Jason Taft. Officer Taft is on administrative leave. The Platteville Police Department is following legally required procedures in addressing this matter. We understand and appreciate the public’s concern. Due to the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday the trash pickup for next Monday, May 25th has been moved back to this Friday, May 22nd. Residents who normally have their trash picked up by B&C Refuse on Monday’s will need to put their trash out this Friday for pickup.

The Town has partnered with the Weld Food Bank to bring in the Mobile Food Pantry once a month from May through July. The Mobile Food Pantry will be in Platteville next Tuesday, May 26th, at the west side of the Community Center in the ball field parking lot from 10:00am – 11:30am. Residents may access the Mobile Food Pantry by driving into the ball field parking lot and stopping next to the Mobile Food Pantry. Volunteers will load food items in the trunk of your vehicle to provide additional safety and physical distancing. The entrance and exit will be marked and volunteers will be on site to load the food items. The Mobile Food Pantry will also be in Platteville on June 30th and July 28th.

The Town, in partnership with the Platteville-Gilcrest Fire Protection District, will also sponsor the Summer Feeding Program throughout the next few months for our local youth. The Weld Food Bank will supply up to three breakfast and lunch meals each week for children ages 0-18 years old. The Summer Feeding Program will be held each Wednesday from 11:30am – 1:00pm at the Community Center from May 27th through July 29th. This will be a drive-up service in which parents or guardians can pull up to the front of the Community Center, tell the volunteer how many children they have, and three breakfast and lunch meals will be provided for each child. The program is first come, first serve until meals run out and a designated entrance and exit will be marked in front of the Community Center. This program is being managed by the Recreation & Senior Director so please call 720-438-0711 for additional information if needed.

Town Hall will be closed on Monday, May 25th in observance of Memorial Day. Thank you and enjoy the Holiday weekend.
