Last night, our members from Plantsville Engine Company # 2 Inc. and Engine Company 1, Town of Southington spent the evening sharpening one of the most critical skills in emergency response—vehicle extrication.

From stabilizing vehicles to cutting and spreading metal, every movement is intentional. These scenarios may look routine during training, but in real life, they often mean the difference between life and death for someone trapped inside a wrecked vehicle.

Why we train:
Vehicle accidents are unpredictable and high-risk. Practicing extrication allows our crews to:
• Work quickly and efficiently under pressure

• Coordinate seamlessly as a team

• Adapt to different vehicle types and damage patterns

• Minimize further injury to patients during removal

Training like this builds confidence, sharpens skills, and prepares our crews to perform when seconds count most. Proud of the dedication and professionalism shown by our members every time they step out to train.

Also, a huge thank you to Chuck & Eddie's Used Auto Parts for the use of their lot and vehicles and to our dedicated and knowledgeable instructors from Southington Fire Department

Close Before You Doze 🚪💤

Sleeping with your door closed can slow fire, heat, and toxic smoke from entering your room. Night is when fires are most deadly—people are asleep, reaction times are slower, and smoke can spread before you even realize it.

🚒 Can reduce temperatures dramatically.

🚒 Keeps oxygen levels safer longer.

🚒 Buys critical escape time.

Small habits. Big lifesaving impact.

Smoke Detector Check 🔥💨

🚒 A working smoke detector can cut the risk of dying in a house fire in half.

🚒 Tip:
Test your smoke alarms monthly and replace batteries twice a year.

🚒 When was the last time you tested yours?

❄️Heating equipment is one of the leading causes of house fires during the winter months. A few simple precautions can save lives.❄️

🚒 Keep heaters at least 3 feet from anything that can burn:
• Furniture
• Bedding
🚒 Plug directly into a wall outlet — never use extension cords or power strips
• Avoid overloading outlets
• Replace damaged cords immediately
🚒 Turn off before leaving the room or going to sleep
