The Russell Education Foundation is now in our 18th year of serving low-and-moderate-income students in South Florida. The Russell Reading Program was developed by Twan Russell and his mother, Corliss Russell, a Broward County Public Schools educator who drew upon her

experience in the classroom, realizing what was working for her students and where they and their families needed extra assistance. Russell determined that the key to her students’ successes in all subject areas was a mastery of reading comprehension skills.

Before the NFL. Before the foundation. There was my mother, Corliss - a middle school teacher who refused to let a single kid fall through the cracks.

She didn't have a stadium. She had a classroom, a stack of books, and one belief: every child deserves to read.

25 years ago, we built REF on that belief. 20,000 students later, we're still here. Still reading. Still building.

This is for her. This is for them. This is for every kid who just needs one adult to believe.

May is National Get Caught Reading Month - a celebration designed to remind all of us just how fun it is to get lost in a good book. At Russell Education Foundation, every time a student gets “caught” reading, we see more than a quiet moment with a book...we see confidence rising, vocabulary growing, and new doors of opportunity starting to open.

Whether it’s in our after-school classrooms or at the kitchen table, we’re cheering on every child who chooses to turn a page instead of tuning out.

All month long, we’re celebrating students who get caught reading and we’d love for you to join us. Snap a photo of your favorite young reader, tag us , and use so we can share the joy and inspire even more kids to pick up a book.

Today, we pause to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason our children can learn, dream, and walk through doors of opportunity in freedom.

This Memorial Day, we honor their memory with gratitude and quiet reflection and recommit ourselves to building a future worthy of their ultimate sacrifice.
