Photo dump 1 from Camp Constantin as our “Ruthless” Committee Chair drove out to surprise the troop on “parent night” with brisket, sausage and ribs from John Fuentes and icecream and chocolates from Ruth-Dinaz Sarkari. Thank you Mr. John!! From closing flags 🇺🇸to closing campfire 🔥 with final camp Dinner, and even a board of review for Gwyn H. Now a STAR 🌟 scout, conducted by our new Advanacement Chair Meghan Medina-McConnell who solicited the help of board members from other troops/councils .

🏕️ Huge shoutout to the incredible adult leaders who make camp possible! 🏕️

While the Scouts were having fun, these leaders were logging hours in remote wilderness first aid, CPR, water safety certifications, and aiding the Scouts.

Every training completed = a fun activity the Scouts can do.

If you have a hobby or passion, there's probably a certification or merit badge for it and we would love to add it to the mix!

Also… a shout out to 198’s own Mr. Cale for winning 2nd place in the camp shooting competition!

Our week at camp is slowly coming to a close.

We know you've been wondering what your kids have been up to, so here's a little peek into the adventure.

Merit badges were earned, new skills were forged, and each kid showed up with a willingness to learn and joy that made every moment worth it.

Your Scouts are returning with far more than just dirty laundry, they’re coming home with stories to tell. See you all Saturday at pickup!

📊 New Eagle Scout Study Released

Scouting America has released a major new research study:
“Eagle Scouts: A Legacy of Values-Based Leadership and Service.”

Conducted by The Harris Poll, the study examined the long-term impact of Scouting and the Eagle Scout experience on leadership, service, character, well-being, and civic engagement.

Among the findings:
⭐ 99% of Eagle Scouts say Scouting had a positive influence on their lives
⭐ Eagle Scouts report higher levels of leadership, purpose, gratitude, and community involvement
⭐ Non-Scouts overwhelmingly recognize the positive impact Scouting has on youth and society

The study also found Eagle Scouts are more likely to:
✔ Volunteer and lead in their communities
✔ Value honesty, responsibility, and service
✔ Maintain strong family and community relationships
✔ Spend time outdoors and practice environmental stewardship
✔ Live by the values found in the Scout Oath and Law

Today our small Troop put out almost 600 flags in Canyon Creek and Jackson Neighborhoods.
*🇺🇸 Memorial Day*🇺🇸 is celebrated to honor and mourn the U.S. military personnel who died in service to their country. Originally established to honor Civil War soldiers, it now commemorates all American service members who lost their lives in any war or conflict.
We share our storage trailer with Cub Scout Pack 262 Richardson and Troop 1001 from Northern Trail District. Team Work!!

This is awesome!! 👏🏼 But seems “all” military and allied groups are NOT covered. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’ll have to see how this works when we do recharter/renewal year end… which I am told is also changing to a February 28 (!) date annually. Will have to figure all this out when the time comes! 😘😆 Who wants to be Committee Chair for our 💕FABULOUS 💕 Troop 198 Plano??!!??

Scouting America Military Family Fee Waiver

Effective June 1, 2026, Scouting America is expanding access to Scouting for military-connected youth by waiving the $85 national youth registration fee for eligible families. This program applies to youth members only and is available for both new and renewing online registrations. The initiative is funded nationally through philanthropic efforts.

Eligible families include those with current service in the Active Duty, Reserve, or National Guard. The waiver covers only the national youth registration fee, reducing the $85 cost to $0 after the required verification and discount code process is completed. Local council fees, unit dues, optional add-ons such as Scout Life magazine, and processing fees may still apply.

To receive the waiver, families should select “Get Military Discount Code” during the online registration process, complete the verification steps, receive the verification code, and enter it at checkout. Once the code is applied, the national registration fee is reduced to $0.

Scouting America notes that the $85 fee may initially appear during checkout but will be removed after the verification code is entered. The waiver is available only for online registrations.
