This is Plano Independent School District.

A booster club mom asked too many questions and ended up in jail.

Laura Cervantes was elected President of a parent run-booster club supporting students at a Plano ISD school. When she started questioning Plano ISD’s finances and policies, the school district didn’t like it.

What allegedly followed: retaliation, stolen mail, a hostile takeover of the club’s bank account – and the arrest of Laura and two other booster club mothers.

They were booked and fingerprinted for a crime that could not even get past a grand jury.

Now Laura is taking her fight to federal court – and CDF is standing with her.

"Some benefits from the new zone for the district include: property value increases to strengthen the district's long-term tax base."

Let's be direct about what this actually means: higher property values mean higher tax bills. Framing that as a benefit to homeowners is misleading at best.

This also directly contradicts what Plano ISD's own CFO stated — that district participation "will not add any new taxes for residential property owners." Those two statements cannot both be true. Either property values rise and taxes follow, or they don't. The district cannot claim a strengthened tax base as a benefit while simultaneously promising homeowners their taxes won't increase.

This community has seen this playbook before. During the bond election that included the proposed event center, similar assurances were made and later proved unreliable. Voters rejected it. The same pattern of reassurance-first, consequences-later should not be allowed to repeat itself here.

Plano ISD's board of trustees approved participation in a new tax zone that will partially fund a new arena for the Dallas Stars.

I’ve seen a lot of these Iranian flags at sports bars recently. I understand they qualified for World Cup but that doesn’t mean we need to display the flag of an enemy we are at war with.

It's rare that Plano Independent School District can surprise me. Given the seriousness of the situation, I thought they would rise above their usual antics. I was wrong. So now you have to look at my butt for 3 minutes if you want to hear my public comment. These are the people in charge of your child's education. Their incompetence is on full display.
