Foster Friends

Foster Friends Provides Collin County foster kids with ordinary childhood experiences that their caregivers can't afford and the government doesn't provide.

Foster Friends is a Collin County 501(c)(3), formerly known as Collin County Child Protective Services. Foster Friends supports Collin County children in foster care by providing them with ordinary childhood experiences that their caregivers can't afford and the government doesn't provide. We do this in two ways: (1) by granting special needs requests and (2) by organizing events for local childre

n in foster care. Many of the special needs requests we grant are critical for our kids. For example, we've provided a reading tutor for a failing elementary school student whose caregivers lacked the literacy skills to help him. We've also helped teenagers in foster care achieve independence by funding their drivers' education. Other requests we fund simply help our foster children recover some semblance of a normal childhood, such as receiving a school yearbook or attending cheerleading camp. In addition to granting these special needs requests, our board puts on special events for Collin County kids in foster care. In June, we invite the children to a movie at Studio Movie Grill. For some children, it's the first time they've ever been to a theater.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness month, a topic rarely talked about because of how horrific the thought is. There are so many incredible organizations who help to serve our community alongside our Police Department by advocating for the kids during the judicial process and helping the kids to heal after. A few examples are Children’s Advocacy of North Texas, Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center, CPS, and CASA. I had the opportunity to personally thank and recognize Foster Friends, DFPS and Empower with a Certificate of Recognition for the work they do every day towards this issue, but want to publicly thank anyone involved in helping to spread awareness on the topic and helping to end the cycle of abuse and neglect.

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month 💙

You may have already seen pinwheels placed at the Collin County Courthouse—each one representing a child and serving as a reminder of why this work matters so deeply.

Across our communities, support is growing. From city council meetings already attended in McKinney and Fairview to upcoming involvement in Blue Ridge, Allen, Celina, Prosper, and Plano, awareness is being brought to the forefront in meaningful ways.

If you’re part of this group, you’re already someone who cares—and your voice matters more than you know. Whether it’s showing up, sharing information, supporting families, or simply having conversations that bring awareness, every action makes a difference.

Together, we can continue creating a community where every child feels safe, seen, and supported.

Our hearts (and shoe racks!) are full! 👟💛

To every single person, partner, and organization who donated, sorted, and helped us fill the shelves for Friday night’s “Back to School” event with the Children’s Advocacy Center—you were the real soles of this mission. 🥹💙

Because of YOU, over 500 pairs of brand-new shoes were collected and shared with children in Collin County who deserve to start the school year feeling confident, cared for, and seen. Every donation was more than just a pair of shoes—it was a step toward hope.

Foster Friends is beyond grateful for the way this community shows up time and time again. Together, we’re walking out our mission to support abused and neglected children—and friends, we couldn’t ask for better walking partners. 👣✨
