Today has been very warm. We took all the chickens & put them in the big yards for the coops are too warm. Alden went into the woods today to get some beanpoles. He stuck the beans after he got home. I have been in the yard all day under the trees. It was too warm in the house. Mrs. C. Smith called this evening. Hasn’t found her money, guess she never will.

Showery today. We took the oldest barred Plymouth Rock chickens & the littlest R. Island Reds to put them in the hen yard. Mrs. Smith brought me a quart of milk, this morning’s milk. I was glad to get it for I do not have any very often. She lost her pocketbook with 3 dollars in it. Poor woman, she works so hard for her money. I got a letter from Ella today saying that Stephen was a great deal better & at work.

She felt bad to have her go but they never got along together very well. Mary Hooke called today. Poor lonely old lady. If she was not so light-fingered she would have more friends to care for you in old age.

Mr. Roberts met us at the little station, had a fine ride. Fred & wife, Joe Hayes, & Miss Still had got there. Then Mamie & her husband & children came.* We had a grand good dinner then ice cream. Singing, reading & other things for to make it pleasant. God bless them.
*This was the first wedding anniversary of Nellie’s sister Lizzie and her husband, Mr. (Burton) Roberts. The other guests were Mrs. (Louise) Irving, a friend of Lizzie’s; Fred (Frederick Hill) and Mamie (Mary Arabelle Clifton), Lizzie’s son and daughter; Joe Hayes, a long-time boarder at Lizzie’s former boarding house; and Bertha Still, a teacher at Pollard School and also a former boarder.

This has been a good day. I got up early this morning, fed the poultry, did up my work, took 30 eggs to the store to exchange for groceries. Then I came home, built a fire. Mrs. Fuller gave me some rhubarb. I made bread, custard & rhubarb pies, then I did up the cooking dishes and a lot of other things, for I will not have much time tomorrow morning to do a great deal of work.

Tonight it began to rain. It has rained hard all the evening. I am glad to see the rain we needed so much. Got a letter from Ella tonight saying they did not get the pills I sent to them. Well, I am sorry for it takes so much out of my pocketbook & I do not have a great deal in it. Yesterday was little Samuel Clifton’s birthday, 10 years old. How time does fly. It does not seem possible that he is so old.
