In observance of Labor Day, The Plainville Town Hall will be CLOSED on Monday, September 7, 2026. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Residents who use the Municipal Trash Collection Program are reminded that there will NOT be trash & recycling collection on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2026. This WILL result in a one-day delay all week for the collection of trash and recycling. Monday's route will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesdays on Wednesday, etc. with Friday's route collected on Saturday.

The Recycling and Compost Center will be OPEN on Saturday, September 5 and CLOSED on Monday, September 7, 2026.

📢 Plainville Health Department Notice: Outshine Fruit Bars Recall

The Plainville Health Department is alerting residents to a nationwide voluntary recall of select Outshine Fruit Bars due to the possibility of glass contamination in certain batches. This recall was issued by Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. following consumer reports. No injuries or illnesses have been reported as of August 18, 2026.
Recalled Products Include:
• Outshine Strawberry Fruit Bars (6‑count)
• Outshine Grape Fruit Bars (6‑count)
• Outshine Watermelon Fruit Bars (6‑count)
• Outshine Black Cherry Fruit Bars (6‑count)
• Outshine Tangerine Fruit Bars (6‑count)
• Outshine Variety Pack Fruit Bars (24‑count)

These products were distributed nationwide and may have been sold in Massachusetts. Residents are urged to check their freezers.

What to Look For:
Check the UPC, batch code, and best‑before date printed on the bottom of the package. All three must match the recall list to confirm your product is affected. Matching only the flavor or the package size does not necessarily mean your item is part of the recall.
If Your Product Is Part of the Recall:
• Do NOT eat it.
• Dispose of it safely or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
• Contact a healthcare provider if you have concerns about possible injury.

Why Is There a Drought? Here’s What You Need to Know.

With water restrictions in effect, we’ve heard questions from residents about whether new development in Town is to blame for our current water situation. We want to address that directly and honestly.

The drought is statewide — and driven by weather, not growth.

Massachusetts is experiencing a widespread drought affecting communities across the region. The cause is a prolonged period of below-normal rainfall combined with high temperatures and increased evaporation. The result is overall pressure on the water aquifer underlying the entire region. This is a weather event, not a local land-use issue.

What about new homes and businesses?

New development in Plainville is subject to rigorous review, including analysis of its impact on water supply and infrastructure. Permits are not granted unless the Town can demonstrate adequate water capacity. In short, the system is designed to prevent development from outpacing our resources.

What can you do right now?

Follow the Town’s current water use restrictions, limit outdoor watering, and report any leaks or waste. Every gallon saved helps our community get through this together.

In observance of Independence Day, the Plainville Town Hall will be closed on Thursday, July 2nd, 2026. Regular business hours will resume on Monday, July 6th, 2026.

Residents who use the Municipal Trash Collection Program are reminded that Independence Day WILL NOT result in a delay for the collection of trash and recycling due to the holiday falling on a Saturday.

The Recycling and Compost Center will be CLOSED on Saturday, July 4th and OPEN Monday, July 6, 2026.

Trash bills were due on June 17. Please make your payment before July 1st to avoid a $5 late fee.

⚠️ URGENT: Level 2 Drought – Stricter Water Restrictions Now in Effect
Plainville has escalated to a Level 2 – Significant Drought in accordance with the Massachusetts EEA declaration. Use of outdoor irrigation systems is now BANNED.

Level 2 Restrictions – Effective June 22, 2026:
• NO sprinklers or irrigation systems – period.
• Outdoor watering: hand-held hoses or watering cans ONLY, between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m.
• No watering within 48 hours of rainfall
• No driveway, patio, or sidewalk washing
• No vehicle washing at home
• No pool or hot tub filling

Hawkers & Peddlers Notice — Town of Plainville

Over the weekend of June 19–21, door-to-door solicitors were very active throughout Plainville. Residents should be aware that Anderson Windows is currently the only firm holding a valid Hawkers and Peddlers License issued by the Plainville Select Board.

Any other individual, firm, or company conducting door-to-door solicitation in Plainville does not hold a permit and is operating illegally. If you are approached by an unlicensed solicitor, please report it to the Plainville Police Department.

In observance of Memorial Day, the Plainville Town Hall will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Residents who use the Municipal Trash Collection Program are reminded that Memorial Day WILL result in a change to your normal trash schedule. This WILL result in a one-day delay all week for the collection of trash and recycling. Mondays route will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesdays on Wednesday, etc. with Fridays route collected on Saturday.

The Recycling and Compost Center will be OPEN on Saturday, May 23 and CLOSED on Monday, May 25.
