Today was such a productive day! Not only did we have all the first floor windows (minus the kitchen of course still wai...

Today was such a productive day! Not only did we have all the first floor windows (minus the kitchen of course still waiting for the return of the restored kitchen window) open letting in so much fresh air, but so much got done too. Kathy finished building the new printer table (plus it’s on wheels so when the facility team returns to finish the walls we can just slide it out of the way). Deb got to work reorganizing the office and aside from one corner. We’re almost back to normal there plus she hung the curtains back up and Sandy did some cleaning around the desks! Kristine & John worked on cleaning up some of the debris on the second floor, returning the archival boxes back to their shelves & setting up a new folding table to support the antique maps, while Deb organized the Salute to Service Flags in their new location in the “wonky room”. John & Deb also attached the new corn stalks to the sign and 25 flags plus Military flags were planted in front of the museum, honoring the 25th Anniversary of 9/11.

Chris Faille stopped by to give us a hand with some lighting issue we began experiencing today and we’re excited that some new lights will be added to the 2nd floor in the next few weeks.

One of the America 250 Duckies was picked up by Cori (the first was dropped off to Dennis on Saturday, still two more ducks to go to their forever home ) and John & Deb have been tending to the back garden and we hope everyone will take a moment to look. It looks absolutely beautiful for the fall and includes a very special 9/11 garden flag and a new bird friend.

And to top off the day. A very angry wasp was politely asked to leave the Humphrey House. He was not happy about the eviction, but was definitely happy to be outside.

Whew. It was definitely a day. Photos of the day will be posted soon. Our volunteers are rightly exhausted. But now it’s time to settle in and get ready for some Patriots Football!!!

Here comes another episode of Where am I Wednesday with a visit to our non Plainville Ambrotype negatives. We’re hoping someone might recognize this house or even the couple in front of it.

Things to keep in mind.
This photo comes from a specific collection of glass plates found in Mansfield by one of our volunteers and the few we have been able to identify have been around Bristol county including Taunton & Mansfield itself. So keep in mind we’re fairly certain this is NOT Plainville. Also we’re not entirely sure if this is the correct direction for the photo. It could be reversed.

The whole collection is available here on Facebook and only a few photos have been identified from it. So any help is greatly appreciated.

As we prepare to mark 25 years since the events of September 11th 2001 this coming Friday; the Plainville Historical Commission is using today, Museum Monday to ask for your assistance with a vital preservation project.

We would like to document the memories, experiences, feelings, and moments from that day and the days that immediately followed, especially within the Plainville community. This is something that has not been done before but should have been done.

Help us preserve this history so we can continue to honor the words that echoed following 9/11…We will Never Forget.

We will document and preserve the memories for future generations and add them to the physical archives of the Plainville Historical Commission. We’re looking for where you were, what you remembered, what you were doing, etc.

If you are comfortable sharing your memories publicly please feel free to comment below. If you would like to keep them private at the moment, but are still interested in preserving them for future generations, you can email us at [email protected] or send us a private message. Nothing will be shared publicly unless we have permission to do so and a note will be added to the archives to ensure this.

The memories and experiences will be printed out, preserved on paper, and safely stored in our 9/11 archival records along with newspaper clippings and other documents.
