From Miss Wilson: This week was STEM Week in our classroom! We practiced using our minds, problem-solving skills, and creativity to build and create with no instructions, only tools provided. One activity challenged children to build a bridge strong enough for bears to balance on using mini and regular sized Solo cups, large popsicle sticks, and counting bears. Another activity had children balance popsicle sticks across tape stretched between two shelves to create a platform strong enough to build a tower on. The tricky part was that the tape moved, making it harder to balance! Our final activity was creating “rockets” using plastic cups and rubber bands. We tested how the number of rubber bands changed how far the cup rocket would fly. The more rubber bands we used, the more strength it took to launch, while fewer rubber bands made the rocket fly a shorter distance. STEM Week allowed creativity and critical thinking to come to life in our classroom!

Mrs. Mrs. Mills: Our class has been busy learning about flowers, gardens, and Earth Day! We learned the life cycle of a plant, we planted our own flowers and have been learning how to care for them. Through our learning we have created our own flower garden by using pretend flower manipulatives. We also used kinetic sand, black beans, silk flowers, and flower pots for some sensory play as they watered and pretended to grow flowers. On Wednesday it was Earth day. We did a Scholastic weekly reader titled: We Share Earth. We discussed ways we can enjoy our earth as well as take care of it. We also talked about how the earth is made of land and water and we created a paper mache earth. We created a marble painting using blue and green paint, and each child drew their own heart and painted it red or pink to show our love for planet Earth!
