For those that are unaware of the story. The apple tree surrounded by Lupins on Stage Road is in memory of late Meriden Librarian Bettyann Dole, who like all Librarians had a love of introducing children to reading. Story hour, where kids gather around to listen to a good story is what libraries are all about.

On June 9-10, The Maxfield Parrish and Plainfield Village Town Hall Committees are participating in NH Gives. Money received will go into the Plainfield Historical Society's Parrish Stage Set Fund, a 501(c)3, for use on the Plainfield Town Hall and Stage Set projects.

This is a chance to support the preservation of a rare piece of American art and local history: the original 1916 Maxfield Parrish Stage Set inside Plainfield Village Town Hall.

The goal is to protect the stage set, care for the building around it, and keep the Town Hall active as a community space for the next generation, just as past generations kept it here for us. We are half way there on raising the LCHIP, Land and Community Heritage Investment Program matching grant of $125,000. Your donations can help put us over the top to get all work accomplish this year.

Donations through NH Gives help with the practical work behind that goal: preservation, public viewing days, events, and sharing the stage set’s story with more people.

Any amount of a donation helps keep this work moving forward.
To find us during NH Gives, visit https://www.nhgives.org/organization/Plainfield-Historical-Society-2 or search "Maxfield Parrish"

Please mark your calendar for June 9 at 5:30 p.m. to June 10 at 5:30 p.m. and help us save, preserve and share this piece of Plainfield history.

Check out our new webpage. www.maxfieldparrishstageset.org Other options for giving are on the donation page.

Thank you!

Notes from the Plainfield Town Office
As part of our local government outreach, details will be posted periodically on social media about upcoming meetings and opportunities for resident input.

Thursday June 4th 2026: Most have already done so, but if you are one of those folks who likes to be fashionably late you can still purchase a 2026 toter sticker from the town office in person or via the US mail.

Dog registrations are about done as well, Plainfield has about 700 resident canines and as of today all but a handful have been registered. Good news for most, bad news for the few who haven’t gotten it done yet. The Police are coming, ticket book in hand.

The town grader continues to make steady progress on gravel roads. This week Colby, Ladieu, Columbus Jordan have all been made better. High St, Croydon Turnpike, Grantham Mt., Center of Town Road and Old County Rd are next on the list beginning Monday morning.

If you like reading consultant reports the Town Office Staffing report is now available on the Select Board page on the town’s website. Look under “Key Resources.” The Select Board has engaged local Human Resources consultant Bev Widger to help with the recruiting work for our next Town Administrator. My commitment to the town is firm through Friday April 2nd 2027 at which time a new person will be installed in the position and I can quietly hike/bike/paddle into a nice sunset. The Select Board hopes to have the person training in the office with us by January 1st

The staffing study has confirmed what we thought we knew, mainly that it would be better for the town long term to have some of the town administrator functions split between more positions. Consequently, it is very likely that we will be advertising for a part time Payroll/Accounts Payable/Bookkeeper in the very near term. If you or someone you know has some life experience that might make this an attractive side job (maybe 8-10 flexible hours per week) come see us. We have some brand-new state of the art cloud-based software for these functions. Breaking this piece away will allow the new Town Administrator more time each week to focus on long term town issues and to support the Select Board and our three land use boards (Planning, Zoning and Conservation Commission).

If that East Plainfield cell tower proposal is of any interest to you, the Zoning Board will be back on the case Monday evening June 8th starting at 7pm. You can join us in person or remotely using Zoom. If you have something to add or you just want to learn more about it, this will be a key meeting for the project. Visit the Zoning Board page at www. Plainfieldnh.org for pages of details including a visual analysis of the new tower.

In closing, you should now have your first 2026 tax bill, because it is heavy it will tend to sink to the bottom of the pile. That 10% off coupon for getting that newly registered dog a shampoo and blow dry at the Lebanon pet salon will definitely float over a tax bill and cover it right up. Out of sight out of mind, so mark the calendar (paper or electronic) property taxes are due Monday July 1st.

Spring road grading update: The grader is out daily, to date work has been done on Whitaker, Underhill, Bean, Gleason, Freeman, River Rd. Today and tomorrow the machine is working on Ladieu, Colby, and Columbus Jordan. The machine will be out daily until all the gravel roads have been freshened. A cold wet spring has slowed progress but Road Agent Collins and his team are catching up quickly. Thank you for your patience.
