Lake Renwick Preserve - Heron Rookery Nature Preserve

The Forest Preserve District of Will County's Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve offers trails and birdwatching. Open seasonally.

The Forest Preserve District of Will County's Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve, open seasonally, provides a parking area, latrine, hand pump, and access to 1.44 miles of natural surface trail (ideal for hiking/running), bird viewing platforms, and the Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Visitor Center, which offers seasonal public programs.

The preserve is closed at this time of year to protect the nesting birds, but you can visit from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays mornings through Aug. 8 to check out all the activity.

Ever wondered about those wooden pirate ships on the islands at Lake Renwick Heron Rookery? Those are nesting platforms for herons, egrets and more. The Heron Rookery is closed during nesting season, but we open it on Saturday mornings so the public can get a closer look at the islands and the nesting birds. Don't miss this chance to get a closer look at all the activity.
