📢Notice to Village of Plainfield Residents – Public Fire Protection Billing📢
Some residents may notice an additional bill with a new account number for public fire protection services. We want to take a moment to explain why this change was made.
In December 2025, the Village Board approved a decision to begin billing unmetered parcels for fire protection, specifically for fire hydrant use. Previously, the cost of maintaining fire hydrants was primarily covered by properties with water and sewer (metered) services and Village funds.
However, all properties in the Village benefit from the availability of fire hydrants, whether they are connected to water/sewer services or not. The revenue from these charges do NOT go to the Fire Department but go to the Water Department as fire hydrants are part of our water infrastructure.
This update helps:
✔️ Distribute the cost of fire hydrants more fairly across all properties
✔️ Reduce the financial burden on only metered utility customers
✔️ Ensure continued, reliable fire hydrant services for the entire community
We understand that new or additional charges can raise questions, and we are happy to help. If you have any questions about your bill, please contact the Village Office during normal business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM) at 715-335-6501
Thank you for your understanding and for helping support essential services that keep our community safe!
