Earlier this year, the library received a $10,000 grant from the American Library Association to improve access to library services for people who have difficulty getting to the library because of illness or mobility challenges. As part of the grant, we're hosting a Community Conversation to hear your ideas about how we can best use the funds. Join us Saturday, September 19 at 1 PM to share your thoughts. Refreshments will be available!

Some of the questions we'll explore:
Should we create a delivery system for books and other materials?
Would a ride-share program help people get to the library?
Would you participate in a volunteer delivery system?
Should we invest in equipment to livestream programs and make recordings available afterward?
How could we make our website more accessible?
Should we offer portable Wi-Fi hotspots for patrons to borrow?

I know the start of a new school year is a busy time, but don't forget to stop in at the library tomorrow for the final week of free lunches for children and youth. You may pick up one bag per child. Each bag has a week's worth of lunches.

Many thanks to the volunteers at the Onion River Food Shelf, who make the library's free lunches possible, and to all those who donated to their recent matching challenge!

The Onion River Food Shelf reports fantastic news: We exceeded our match for the $5,000 challenge grant from a generous donor in our community. Our grand total comes to $12,345! Many thanks to all who were able to donate at this time. The money will go a long way toward meeting the ever-increasing need for food for families in Marshfield, Plainfield, Cabot, Calais, and East Montpelier.

The Onion River Food Shelf is open weekly on Wednesdays from 9:00-2:00 and Saturdays from 10:00-12:00 at the Old Schoolhouse Common building in Marshfield.

Pick up a copy of A Resistance History of the United States by Tad Stoermer at the Cutler so you have time to read it before the library hosts an event with him this autumn. (The author has committed, but the date has yet to be decided.)

We have forty copies to circulate and will be offering free copies to library collections across Vermont after the event. This project is made possible by a 250 grant from the Vermont Humanities Council.

Someone donated a portable sewing machine to the library, and it's in the collection, ready for checkout! We have many objects to lend, including musical instruments, craft kits, telescopes, games, and puzzles. And we will be adding more before the summer ends. Search the catalog with the word "object" to see what you can borrow from the library!

Building StoryTime Thursday, July 30th, from 10:30 to Noon.

We’ll be reading two books: The Fort by Laura Perdew and Not a Box by Antoinette Portis. Then, with all the boxes, tubes, and oddly shaped cardboard we’ve been saving up over the past year, we’ll build forts, pirate ships, castles, or whatever our imaginations and cardboard skills can create.

A snack will be provided. No registration is necessary.

The lunches have arrived for children and youth - one per child- and the Garden Exchange is available for anyone and everyone. (Exchange is unnecessary - it’s really about sharing abundance!)

We are getting ready for StoryTime tomorrow! Don't miss out on the fun!

Come for our Yoga StoryTime: Thursday, July 16th, from 10:30 to noon, and experience our Yoga Obstacle Course with hula-hoop stations, stepping blocks, sensory tiles, and more. Blowing bubbles will be our "breath work." You don't need to know any poses! Just come move your body and have a silly amount of fun. (Trust me, I anticipate a fair amount of good chaos!)

We’ll be reading two books, Some Days I’m the Wind, by Rebecca Gardyn Levington, and Good Night Yoga, by Mariam Gates.

A snack will be provided, and no registration is necessary.
