This evening, HS Fire and EMS Program student Max Golembiewski was recognized as the 2023-24 Tolles Career & Technical Center Senior Interview Contest winner, earning 1st Place. Each year, around four hundred (400) senior students compete in the annual contest. Twenty (20) program winners are selected out of all those senior students. After these twenty (20) students compete in the second round, the top eight (8) students are selected to move on to the third and final round. In the last twelve (12) years, our HS Fire and EMS Program has sent someone to the final round, or top 8, in 11 out of 12 times. In those 12 years, the Fire/EMS Program has now won five (5) times, which is 41.6% of the time, with 6 out of 8 remaining students all finishing in the top three, meaning we have placed in the top 3 10 out of 12 times. Our program expectation is that this trend continues each year, and Max Golembiewski did just that by winning 1st Place this year.
Max was also recognized this evening for placing 2nd in the SkillsUSA Ohio State Championships Firefighter Skills Competition. This competition evaluates the competitor’s preparation for firefighting careers through hands-on skill demonstrations and both written and oral presentations. Areas tested include safety; breathing apparatus; fire streams; ladders, ropes, knots, and hoses; fire control; ventilation; emergency medical care and rescue; and protecting fire cause evidence. Max placed 2nd in the State out of 26 competitors.
