🚨 Stay Informed. Stay Safe.

When an emergency happens, don’t rely on secondhand information, get alerts straight from the source.

RAVE is El Dorado County’s official emergency alert system. In a disaster, the Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services sends real-time notifications directly to registered residents by text, phone call, and email.

📱 While third-party apps like Watch Duty can be helpful, they don’t provide immediate, official alerts when every second counts.

✅ Make sure you’re signed up to receive critical updates. It only takes a minute to register.

🔥🌲 Family Vacation Survival Guide: Campfire Edition

Nothing says “quality family bonding” like arguing over marshmallows in the woods. But let’s keep it from turning into a cautionary tale.

If you’re attempting a campfire, please:
- Use an actual fire ring (not “that flat rock that seems fine”)
- Keep the fire small and manageable (this is not a contest with your campsite neighbors of who can build the biggest fire)
- Clear away dry grass, leaves, and anything that looks slightly flammable
- Keep water and a shovel nearby (yes, this is required, not optional props)

And whatever you do, do NOT leave the fire unattended. Not even “just for a second.”

When you’re done, fully extinguish it with water, stir the ashes, and make sure everything is cool to the touch.

A safe campfire keeps the vacation fun, the forest intact, and your trip from becoming the story everyone tells at Thanksgiving.

🔥 Not-so-fun fact: Around 95% of wildfires are caused by people 😬

Your weekend yard tools are great for getting things done, but they can also spark trouble fast.

Before you dive into yardwork mode, remember: it only takes one small spark to turn a productive day into an emergency.

🌱 Mow Smart:
- Avoid mowing during hot, dry, or windy conditions.
- Don’t mow in dry vegetation, use a w**d trimmer instead.
- Clear rocks from your work area.
- Keep equipment well-maintained and have suppression tools on hand.

Also don’t forget to:
🚗 Tow Smart: Loose or dragging chains can throw sparks. Make sure they’re secured before you drive.

🚙 Park Smart: Hot engines and exhaust can ignite dry grass. Park on pavement or bare dirt only.

Let’s keep the only thing blazing this weekend your productivity 💪🔥

🚨 Can first responders spot your home during an emergency?

🏠 If your address is faded, missing, or hard to see from the road, it’s time for an upgrade.

Make your address easy to find by installing a reflective address sign. It’s a simple, low-cost upgrade that can help emergency crews find your home faster during the day or night, even in storms or smoky conditions.

✔ Recommended sign specs:
- 6" x 18" size
- Aluminum backing
- Green reflective vinyl
- 4" high numbers

✨ You can order a reflective address sign through your local Fire Safe Council or fire department. Check your options here: https://www.edcfiresafe.org/reflective-address-sign-list
