It's never too early to let little ones lend a hand!

Simple, age-appropriate chores can help young children build confidence, practice independence, and learn that everyone has a role in helping at home. For toddlers and preschoolers, keep it easy:

🧸 Put toys back in their basket
🧺 Put dirty clothes in the hamper
🐶 Help fill a pet's food or water bowl
🍽️ Carry their plate to the table or sink
🧽 Help wipe up small spills
🧦 Match socks or help sort laundry

They probably won't do it perfectly (and sometimes "helping" creates a little more work 😅), but that's okay. Starting with small jobs now helps children learn skills they'll use as they grow.

We’re honored to be recognized with the Shaping the Future award! 🌟

Each month, Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick recognizes organizations and individuals making a difference in the lives of young people throughout District 1. This month, she recognized the First 5 Commissions serving the district, including First 5 El Dorado.

We’re proud to be part of a community working together to support young children and families throughout El Dorado County and grateful for this special recognition.

Vitamin D plays an important role in helping babies and young children build strong, healthy bones.

Children need vitamin D beginning shortly after birth, but how they get enough can depend on their age and how they're fed.

A few things for parents to know:
🍼 Breastfed and partially breastfed babies typically need a daily vitamin D supplement.
🥛 Infant formula is fortified with vitamin D.
🍳 Once children begin eating solid foods, eggs, some fish, and vitamin D-fortified foods can help provide this important nutrient.

Have questions about whether your baby or toddler is getting enough? Talk with your child's healthcare provider at their next checkup.

Pregnancy comes with plenty of questions, including what’s safe to eat. 🍎

Some foods are best avoided or handled with extra care during pregnancy because they may carry a higher risk of foodborne illness or may not be recommended during pregnancy.

A few things to keep in mind:
🥩 Avoid raw or undercooked meat, seafood, and eggs
🐟 Choose fish that are lower in mercury
🥛 Avoid unpasteurized milk and cheeses made with unpasteurized milk
🥪 Heat deli meats and hot dogs until steaming
☕ Keep an eye on caffeine intake
🥬 Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly

Have questions about a specific food? Talk with your healthcare provider about what’s right for you and your pregnancy.
